Asta didn't remember exactly when he had first met Eren and Armin. They had been friends since a young age and when Asta looked back into his memories, he could always see them there. Mikasa had joined the group a little later in life and though she became quick friends with Eren and Armin, her and Asta never got along.
He hadn't been sure why at first. He had tried his hardest to be her friend. He was a friendly child and just wanted to be nice to everyone. Mikasa was the first person to show him that being nice didn't work on everyone.
He eventually ended up figuring it out. She hated him because of how close he and Eren were. They were the closest to each other and if there were ever a choice between Mikasa and Asta, Eren would choose the blondes side every single time. That infuriated Mikasa because while Asta was around, getting Eren to focus on her was more of a challenge.
"Hey, Eren!" A young version of Asta spoke excitedly, running into the house and wrapping his arms around his best friend. "Mum and dad let me come over early!"
"Cool!" Eren smiled back at him. Asta took the seat next to him and Eren shared some of his food. The two began a conversation about nothing in particular when Mikasa walked over to the table with a frown, sitting across from the.
"Hello, Mikasa." Asta greeted kindly and she nodded at him back. He cleared he throat awkwardly and turned back to Eren. "Do you want to go to the river today? I don't have to be back home for ages. We could skip rocks!"
Eren nodded his head, finishing off the last of his food before putting his spoon down and getting up. "Okay. Let's go!" He and Asta went towards the door when Eren noticed Mikasa was trailing behind them. "Oh, Mikasa. Can you stay here? It's just going to be me and Asta today." Eren said bluntly. "A boys day."
Asta widened his eyes when he saw Mikasa looking upset. "Um, it's okay, Eren. I don't mind - "
"Bye, Mikasa!" Eren grabbed onto Asta's shirt and dragged him out of the house and into the cool air.
Asta could feel Mikasa's heated glare on his back and it made him sigh. "Are you trying to get her to hate me even more? I'm trying to be her friend."
Eren shrugged, "I just wanted it to be me and you today."
"She'll end up following us anyway. Now, she'll just be hiding in the shadows and wishing I were dead." He mumbled in annoyance. Trying to be her friend was getting harder and harder and if it didn't happen soon, he would just give up. She was stubborn and as long as he hung around with Eren, she would hate him.
