The next day in school I find Alex drinking water from the water fountain.
"Hey."
He looks up at me and his eyes widen. "Whoa, did I say something bad to you yesterday?" He scans around for Michael and Carlos.
I laugh. "No just wanted to ask you if you wanted to hang with me today?"
"Really?" He lifts one eyebrow. "Where's your boyfriend?"
I roll my eyes. "Doesn't matter." I grab his arm. "Come on."
We sit together in the cafeteria and he introduces me to his friends. They all apologize for mistreating me too and I forgive them. As Kevin, one of Alex's friends, is telling us about a time he got lost when he went camping with his family, Michael drags me out of the group.
"Really Lisa?"
"Can I do something for you?"
"Yeah, how can you be with them? They were mean to you."
"Yeah, well at least they told me." I walk back to the group and I look at Michael walking outside of the cafeteria. He pushes a chair out of his way and swings the doors open hard. I miss him.
After school, Alex and I go get ice cream at the parlor. We pass by a flower shop and a lady smiles at me so I smile back. I looked at the flowers and for some reason, the blue daisies caught my attention.
"You want one?" Alex asks because he notices me staring at them for too long.
"Um, no it's okay." I begin to walk away until Alex touches my arm to make me stop.
"One blue daisy please." The lady gives him the flower and he pays.
The lady turns to me, "There's a reason why you want this flower."
Alex hands me the flower and I stare into it. I get a memory of Michael handing me the same kind of flower. I smile and say to the lady, "I know." and to Alex, "Thank you."
"No problem." We arrive at the park and sit down on the swings.
"Are you still with Michael?" he asks as he licks his cone.
"I don't even know," I say truthfully.
"Do you even remember him?"
"Not really."
"Well all I can say to help him is that he really likes you. I mean, he stood up for you."
"Yeah." I look around the park and catch a dog trying to snatch a butterfly.
He walks me home and I tell him thanks again for the flower.
"Your welcome Lisa and thank you."
"For what?" I tilt my head and raise an eyebrow.
"For forgiving me."
"Oh, look. I'll forgive you if you are yourself."
He smiles and nods. "I'll see you around," he says and I watch him disappear.
