The next few days were quiet. I kept to myself mostly, aside from the occasional drop in by Elijah to check on me. I didn't really want to be out and about, but I couldn't let myself go again. I could feel the sadness creeping up on me again, the same kind as when my parents died, and I knew if I didn't do something I'd get right back into my slump. And I knew Davina wouldn't want that, so that gave me a little motivation to get back to my normal routine.

Today, I decided to finally go into work. Cami knew I needed some time off, but I felt bad that she had been dealing with it all alone because I knew Sophie hadn't come in. No one had seen her since the failed attempt at the Harvest, and I was hoping she was searching for a way to resurrect the girls, but deep down I knew she was mourning over her niece and the witches' eventual loss of power.

Cami was sweeping when I walked in and looked relieved that she didn't have to be alone anymore. She set the broom down and gave me a quick hug before resuming, "Hey, I hadn't seen you in like a week. I was beginning to worry."

"I'm fine," I promised her, trying to convince myself that I was.

"How are things with Elijah?" She asked.

"Fine, I guess," I shrugged, not really knowing what to call our relationship now. We hadn't talked anymore about it, probably because every time we did, something more important came up and it kept getting swept under the rug. I knew that he couldn't control it, but I wished that we could have just one day off from all this stuff.

One of the floorboards creaked and Marcel emerged from the shadows, looking rough as hell. "Looks like I should've been here last night," he joked, referring to the absolute mess from the party the night before.

Cami gasped and quickly picked up a broken bottle, holding it in front of her like a weapon, "Before you try anything, I'm on vervain. And so is Addie."

"Yea, Klaus mentioned you broke free of his compulsion. Good for you. Sophie around?" He brushed her off, his voice sounding defeated.

"No, why?" Cami shook her head.

"Got a witch problem. Thought she might have answers," Marcel answered as he walked around us to sit down at the bar. He dug some cash out his pocket and threw it on the counter and grabbed a bottle of bourbon, "Mind if I wait?"

"It's a little early for day drinking," Cami told him as she set down the bottle. "Let me guess, Klaus problems. I thought you'd be on top of the world. Now that you have Davina back."

Marcel and I glanced at each other. I forgot that Cami wasn't with us the day of the sacrifice. I had just assumed she knew. Marcel sighed, "Davina's gone."

Cami's face dropped before she got angry. "Was it Klaus? I told him, if he hurt her—"

"It wasn't like that," Marcel shook his head before she could get too carried away. "The power that she had was too much. We tried to fix her with this crazy-ass ritual, and something went wrong. Now she's, I don't know... floating in limbo or waiting on her ancestors." He suddenly threw the bottle against the wall, causing it to shatter.

I did feel bad for Marcel. I didn't trust him or necessarily like him a whole lot after he kidnapped me, but he seemed to really care about Davina. He went through all this trouble to keep her safe and then finally handed her over to the witches who betrayed her. Davina was all he had left after Klaus took control again. It was like he had nothing.

Cami's voice softened, "Marcel, I'm sorry."

"Yeah, me too," he sighed. His phone started to ring and with one quick glance he saw it was Klaus, and sighed before ignoring it.
