Addie's POV

My vision is blurry when I finally open my eyes. I try to take in a deep breath and immediately start to choke as black water enters my mouth. I sit up with a gasp and start coughing up the water, desperately trying to catch my breath. I look around as I realize I'm sitting in a shallow pool of dark water, my skin completely clean and bare. I slowly stand up as the water trickles off of me and climb out of the pool, the stone cold against my feet. I have no idea where I am or how I even got here. The last thing I remember is running through the woods as a wolve and then my mind goes blank. Maybe I'm dreaming. Or dead.

My body is sore and weak, almost to the point where I can't walk. I quietly open the heavy stone door and step out into the hallway, trying to figure out where the hell I am. I have no clothes, no phone, and I'm not even sure if I'm anywhere near civilization. I just needed to get out of here and get back to New Orleans as quick as possible.

I concentrate my hearing for a moment and am able to pick up a few voices in a room down the hall. I move towards the noise and shove the door open, hoping that the element of surprise will catch them off guard. It's three women wearing black cloaks, and I immediately know they're witches. Great.

One of them raises their hands towards me and my head begins to feel like it's exploding. I grind my teeth together and push through the pain as I run towards her, quickly snapping her neck. The other two start a spell at the same time and I start with the one on my right, sinking my teeth into her neck. The strength starts to return to my body and I release my grip on her and run towards the other, shoving her so hard against the wall that it kills her. The searing ache in my head begins to wear off as I bend over to take a breath, looking at the three dead witches.

I've never seen any witches who wear these type of cloaks so they must not be from the Quarter. They also felt more powerful than any of the witches I'd ever dealt with in New Orleans. I had no freaking idea what they wanted with me and what I was doing here, but I suppose that was a different problem for a different day.

I took a black cloak off of one of the witches and wrapped it around my bare body before leaving. I didn't see or hear anyone else so it must've just been those three. I tried to make a mental note of where I was so I could come back and figure out why I was here, but my brain was foggy. I was praying to see a car parked outside, but of course there was nothing around. Probably would've been a good idea to keep one of them alive so I could ask what they wanted with me. Oh well.

It was daytime outside, so I was a little confused as to how I was still human. But I didn't care if the curse was broken or not. All I know is that I had to see Elijah. Hopefully I'd stay human at least until I could let him know that I was still alive.

I picked a random direction and sped through the woods, racing against time. Eventually, I found a major highway and flagged down a random car to ask for directions back to New Orleans. I considered stealing the car, but I felt guilty leaving the driver all the way out here and I knew it would be faster by foot anyway. Luckily, it was only an hour away so I could be there in no time.

I sighed in relief once the familiar sounds and lights of the city came into view. It felt like I hadn't been here in years when in reality it had only been a few months. I had no idea where Elijah was or if he was even in the city. I just had to pray that he was at the compound.

I pulled open the doors and walked into the courtyard to see Elijah, Klaus, and Freya bickering with one another. This didn't feel real. That they were here, in front of me.

"Elijah?" I called quietly, drawing everyone's attention.

Elijah's face paled and I could hear his heart stop. He took a step towards me, "Adelaide?"
