It seemed the universe was just kicking me while I was down the next morning when I heard a knock on the door. Elijah was at the gym, taking out his frustrations on his brother on some punching bag, and I was trying to clean up since this place had somehow gotten extremely messy while I was gone. I braced myself for whoever was standing behind the door as I opened it, but instead of a person there was a black box lying in front of me. I knelt down and slowly unraveled the black bow, pulling off the top to see a folded emerald dress and a note on the top.

You are cordially invited to an evening of exquisite excess.

The Daville Estate. 7041 St. Charles Ave

Midnight

I do hope that you can come, old chum.

Tristan

On the front of the note was the name The Strix. I had no idea what this was referring to, but I guess it was an invitation to some type of ball. I put the lid back on the box and set it inside as I went to find Elijah. He definitely had to know what this was about.

I walked inside the old St. Anne's church for the first time in months to see that it was completely renovated. There was equipment spread all over the old sanctuary, with a big boxing ring in the middle. I heard Elijah before I saw him, and walked around the corner just in time to see the punching bag he was using fly across the room.

"Klaus problems?" I guessed as he turned around at the sound of my arrival.

"Something like that," he nodded while wiping the sweat off his forehead.

"Or maybe The Strix? Whatever that is," I began and showed him the invitation.

He took it out my hand and read it over quickly before handing it back. "This isn't your concern," he told me dismissively as he walked past.

I grabbed his arm, spinning him around to face me before he could leave. "Tell me. I'm part of this family, too. I deserve to know what's going on."

There was a moment of silence as we stared at each other before he finally gave in. His face relaxed a little, but I could tell his guard was still up. "I'm afraid we have to pay my brother a visit for this one," he sighed as he grabbed his coat.

I rolled my eyes, "Great."

Klaus' eyes widened when the two of us walked in the study, "Oh, good. If it isn't my not-so-loving elder brother and my former best friend who now hates me. What a nice, normal family gathering."

"Funny. Elijah was just telling me how you're trying to figure out which of your old friends you can trust and which one is trying to kill you," I smiled at him sarcastically.

"Well, clearly what the situation needs is more opinions," Klaus retorted and looked at his brother. "I'm assuming you've told her about the prophecy?"

I glanced over my shoulder at Elijah, "No, he hasn't."

"I was just getting to that," Elijah sighed while shaking his head.

"Well, it appears my old mate Lucien has acquired a genuine seer, and in an effort to prove his good intentions, he got her to show us some rather dire visions of future doom. It's grim stuff, really. Not for the faint of heart," Klaus explained casually.

"Is it just your doom? I think we're all okay with that," I reminded him as the others nodded.

Klaus chuckled, "Well, sadly, we're all on the chopping block. But chin up. This witch claims her visions are constantly evolving. So, you may just get your wish."
