I sat quietly in the corner of the room, listening to Cami's heartbeat get slower and slower. Everyone came to say their goodbyes, but I remained seated, my eyes never leaving Cami. Klaus planted himself on the other side of the room, both of us refusing to leave her side. When Cami's heartbeat finally stopped for good, I still didn't move. Neither did Klaus. I watched all the life leave her radiant face, watched her smooth skin turn gray, watched the light drain out of her green eyes. I could barely recognize her.

I tried not to think about anything, not to feel anything. Every time I could sense the grief creeping in, I just pushed it back down. I didn't want to feel anything, because I knew as soon as I did, it would tear me apart.

"Adelaide?"

Elijah's voice sounded a million miles away. For the first time in hours, my eyes moved from Cami's lifeless body to Elijah standing in front of me. He had been in here periodically to check on me, but it was like I was trapped in my own little bubble. His presence didn't even register.

"I need you to come with me. Something's happened to Davina," he explained softly.

A little spark of life ignited inside of me at the mention of Davina. I stood up and looked over to Klaus, who was staring out the window silently. He slightly turned his head at Elijah's words and retreated downstairs.

Elijah led me down into the courtyard where Freya and Kol were waiting. Kol's shirt was stained with blood and his eyes were full of regret. My footsteps faltered as I looked down to see Davina's body on the ground. I swallowed hard and shook my head at him, "What did you do?"

"It was the Ancestors," Kol explained in a defeated voice. "I couldn't help it."

"She's dead?" I asked him with wide eyes. I felt Elijah's hand rest reassuringly on my lower back, his dark eyes locked on me to gauge my reaction. He knew I was about to fall apart.

"But we're going to get her back," Freya promised him as she looked over at me. She motioned down to the spell on the table that she was working on. "I'll draw Davina's spirit to a circle. As long as she's there, the Ancestors won't be able to torment her. With luck, that will buy you some time to find a way to resurrect her. But I'll need an Original if I'm going to sustain the spell."

Kol immediately stepped forward. "Take me. Put me down, for all I care, if it keeps her safe."

"No, you've been marred by the Ancestors' magic. So, Klaus, Elijah, rock paper scissors," Freya explained as she looked at her other two brothers.

Elijah stepped forward to volunteer himself when the candles on the table suddenly burst into flames. "That can't be good," Elijah murmured.

"My early warning system," Freya realized as she bent down to get a closer look at the candles. "I think a New Orleans witch is trying to meddle with one of you."

"If Lucien has the new regent at his beck and call, it's me he's coming after," Klaus guessed.

Fire spontaneously began to crawl up Rebekah's portrait on the wall behind us. Freya shook her head, "No, he's going after Rebekah." She muttered a small spell to get rid of the flames before they could do too much damage.

"Lucien thought that killing Cami would have me charging into his lair on a suicide mission. When it didn't, he set his sights on Rebekah. He's kicking hornets' nests until we have no choice but to confront him," Klaus announced angrily.

"Presumably, he still believes she's at the bottom of the ocean," Elijah pointed out.

"I cloaked all of you, but with the ancestors working for Lucien, it may take a while, but if he wants to find Rebekah, he will," Freya told him.
