Rainvir pov:
My phone rang. My heart skipped a beat nang Makita kong si Sweet ang tumatawag. I heaved a sigh bago iyon sagutin. “Hey.”, I greeted her with as much enthusiasm as I have kahit mabigat ang damdamin ko.
<flashback from yesterday>
“oh thank heavens! Saan ka ba nanggaling bata ka?”, she said irritated. “tinutubuan na ako ng ugat sa paghihintay dito”
Wala kasing susi ng unit ko si Mom. I don’t know. Gusto ko kasi may sense of freedom ako from her controlling ways. At least makakapagdecide ako when to let her in my condo. I moved towards the door and opened it. Nakapamewang siya sa akin.
“saan ka nga galing?”, pangungulit niya. “bakit hindi mo sinasagot phone mo?”
“nagLunch. Naiwan ko phone ko sa kwarto.”, I lied.
Tumikhim siya. “you were with her weren’t you.”
Hindi ako nagkomento. She strode inside. She looks tired. Drained. Pero that didn’t stop her from opening her mouth.
“I knew it. Why do you keep making bad choices?”, she said. “why cant you be like you dad?” she continued. “kung hindi ka man lang sasali sa politics, at least sumoporta ka na lang sa dad mo.”
I sighed. “hindi naman po makakasama si Sweet sa career ni dad.”
“ay ang kulit! Hindi ka ba nakikinig sa mga sinasabi ko kanina?! Gagamitin nga lang yang issue ng mga kakontra partido ng papa mo. Please lang rainvie hiro!!!”, she exclaimed, she calmed herself bago muling nagsalita. “and besides, there’s someone obviously better. Yung hindi ka na mahihirapan kung pipiliin mong siya ang makasama mo. Si Sheena. I heard she already broke up with her boyfriend.”
Nashock ako. Ang bilis naman ata?
“expect a call from her anytime soon.”, she said and winked at me. mukhang may ginawa ang mom ko na hindi sinasabi sa akin. Here she is trying to meddle in my affairs. Again. “and besides. She came from a family of politicians too. Kasundo ko na nga ang papa niya eh.” That is true. I have actually met Sheena on a social gathering where mostly politicians and their family ang bisita. We had hit it off pretty quickly. She was funny and witty kaya I was hooked instantly. Finally found someone my age sa party na iyon and she hated politics as much as I hated it too. I thought there was a connection. And maybe it was also the way she stared into my eyes that night. ilang buwan lang ang lumipas at naging girlfriend ko na siya.
I blinked. Past ko na si Sheena. Although I loved her, what I felt for her is nothing compared with what I am feeling for Sweet. “mom. Sheena and I are already over. I already told you that. She’s a closed book for me.”
Pinandilatan niya ako. “makinig ka sa akin. Tatawag siya sayo. And pakisamahan mo siya nang maayos. At least try hijo. If you fell for her before, then why wouldn’t you now?”, she insisted.
I fell for her too quickly. I was naïve and I just loved being with her. I loved how she giggled on even my most corny jokes. How she moves close to me. how she kisses and hugs me. Loved the way she made me feel. Loved. Past tense. I have sweet now. Well sort of have sweet. I cant exactly call her mine dahil ayaw niya pa ring pumayag maging girlfriend ko. Nakakasakit ng ulo ang mom ko. Ipinipilit ang tapos na. shocks!
