4| Are you insane like me?

"Why are you making it so complicated?" I complained as it was really stupid to check the cameras for such a small and stupid reason. I dropped my bag on the ground, glaring at her. I folded my arms over my chest.

"No, You said I was a liar.", She answered folding her arms. It was a regular problem. Whenever anyone tried to convince Mai that she is wrong. She would do anything to prove that she is right.

"I never said you were a liar. I just didn't believe you."

"What's the difference."

"Fine, "I answered throwing my hand in the air. I ended the argument as I wasn't really in a mood to argue with someone.

I changed into my regular outfit, (jeans and my black shirt) We went towards the security office. Mai being friendly had a good bond with Trevor, the security guy.

Both of us stood at the door, Mai knocked on the door with her knuckles, while I stared at her, “Don't look at me like that.” She said her eyes fixed at the door.

“Well, I am surprised at your ability to make such a big deal out of such a minor matter. ” I said,

she turned to look at me with a look that said, ‘Shut the fuck up!’ The door unlocked, Trevor appeared, his brown hair all messy, he looked as if he just woke up from a nap

"Hey, Trev. Can you please show me the footage of 5:00 pm, when this personality, right over here went near the swimming pool." I rolled my eyes as she pointed towards me while saying the word 'personality.

"Sure, Mai Mai." He said with a smile. Leaving the door open for us, he went inside, Both of us went inside.

'Mai Mai'

I smiled to myself at his failed attempt to get Mai's attention. Trevor has been trying to get Mai since the day she joined but he is too late cause she is taken.

Mai had her back towards me. While Trev was busy with the computer, I leaned towards Mai and whispered, “Aw, poor Trev wants you so bad.”

She turned to glare at me, “Shut up.” She whispered.

“Here you go,” Trev said, I moved away, Mai looked embarrassed and Trev looked confused. I went towards the computers as he started the footage. Mai and I leaned over Trevor's shoulder

My eyes went wide when I saw the footage. I was underwater for 50 minutes. I moved away, still trying to understand what the hell is happening.

"Told ya," Mai said resting her back to the desk, She raised her eyebrow and then began to smile.

"How do you do that, man?", Trevor asked standing in the same manner as Mai. He looked quite excited as if it was some kind of a magic trick.

Mai turned to face him, "Oh Trev, she is the one who inspired Disney's little mermaid," Mai said her voice filled with sarcasm.

"I don't know," I answered Trev and went out of the room and eventually out of the club without showing any excitement. I took a cab and went back to my apartment.

Mai was my neighbor, that's how we met and she lived with her boyfriend, Carlton. She offered me a lot of time to move in with them but I prefer staying alone and she and her boyfriend should have some privacy.

I put the key in and unlocked the door. Gru, my dog came running towards me. I ran my hands through its soft fur and got in.

My eyes suddenly traveled towards the doorstep, something was kept there. It was a box and an envelope.

I turned towards Gru, "Did anyone come here?"Gru looked towards me and bend his head towards the right side. I laughed at his reaction.

"How the hell will he know?"

Maybe it's Mai. I got down, grabbing the envelope and box I got inside, I let the door close behind me and threw the keys and box at the table. I decided to open the envelope, I pulled out the page, which revealed only one sentence.

"You Miss me, Carmen."

‘Carmen?’

I thought, confusion smeared over my face, I looked around.

What the! Who's Carmen?’

It might be some mistake. I placed the page over the table, placing the key over it. I grabbed the box and opened it as my curiosity was killing me.

It was a ring, a beautiful but ancient ring which I am pretty sure should be kept in a museum.

‘Wow!’

It would be awful of me to keep this expensive ring. So I decided to keep the ring at the doorstep. With a note.

"Wrong address"

The name Carmen, I didn't know why seemed quite familiar. I never met anyone by that name, did I?

It was almost 9:00 pm. I decided to take a shower. I went to the bathroom, stripped my clothes. I stood in front of the shower turning its knob, I closed my eyes, standing still enjoying the gentle feeling as the water touched my skin.

Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing. I quickly turned off the shower and wrapped a towel around me. Closing the door behind me, I grabbed my phone. I gazed at its screen, it was an unknown number.

I think twice before picking it up, "Hello," I said in a low voice,

“Did you like the ring?"

"Umm... Who's this?"

"It's me, Carmen you don't remember me."

"Actually, I am not Carmen. By the way, How did you get my number?"

There was no answer and the call ended. Confused about what just happened, I placed the phone where it was before. All of a sudden I heard a sound. Panic entered my lungs, causing my heart to beat against my chest.

"Gru," I called out but Gru didn't give any response.
