54| Unexpectedly You

What if I die moreover what if I commit suicide, everything will come to a halt, no more conflict with demons. If one sacrifice is worth saving the life of a million then there nothing improper about it.

I honed my blade, sitting at the boundary of the lake, which was encircled by trees. The sun was beginning to set.

Alexander and Antonio were discussing the possible ways to bring those demons downs. I don't want either of them to get hurt because of me.

Everything started because of me and it should very well end with me.

Nobody was close to my sight, so I was gladly admiring my time in privacy. Out of nowhere, my ears procured a familiar voice, a voice that I haven't heard in a long time. A voice that imparted both love and hatred to my heart.

"Carmen."

I ignored the voice and attempted to examine the blade when once again, I heard.

"Carmen."

A delicate wind proceeded to flow, which was accompanied by the rustling of the leaves. I felt someone's presence behind me.

"Carmen."

Being entirely annoyed and agitated, I clutched the blade and faced the voice holder.

There stood a woman, with grey eyes, brown hair that extended till her hip. A shimmering crown was placed over her head. She wore a long white dress, a golden belt swirled around her waist.

After recognizing the familiar voice that stood in front of me, I uttered, with extreme hatred in my eyes.

"Mother."

She gave a low giggle as if something was extremely amusing. I shoved the blade to the ground and placed both my hands over my hips. "What do you want?"

"Nothing. I just wanted to see you, honey." She smiled.

"Seriously, after 200 years. " I scoffed, and then it hit me, 'How the hell is she still alive?' I would have thought twice before asking that but to be honest I don't care. "How are you still alive?"

Her smile faded, and responded, "I am not."

I raised my eyebrows, "What do you mean?" She advanced towards me and halted outstretching her arm. I watched her,  as she placed her hand over my cheek, My eyes widen as I couldn't feel her touch over my cheek, "Why can't I feel your touch?"

"Because I am dead." She uttered, taking her hand away.

"What?" I shifted away from her, "You are one of those demons aren't you?" I yelled and pulled out the blade at once, "Now you have gained access to my mind too. I swear to god, I am going to wipe out your entire race."

She didn't respond, which made me even more frustrated, "You chose my mother's appearance to bring me down, huh. But you know what it won't work. Because my mother gave me equal pain as you all did. She abandoned me when I was five. She was selfish, all she wanted was to be the leader of her clan. She loved her clan more than she ever loved me. She thought I was nothing but a mark of embarrassment."

"Enough!" She yelled, I felt the tears began to flow out of my eyes, I could see a drop of tear fall out of her eye. Her hands clenched to a fist on both sides, "I always loved you, You are my daughter."

"Am I? You should have thought that on the day when you left us and faked promises to come back. I would wait for you every day near the ocean, hoping you would come back, but you didn't. You know there was a time when I needed nothing but a mother, but then again, I was a fool because I didn't know that my mother loves nothing more than herself. "

"I am sorry."

"You are? I don't think so." I snapped, "Did you even know what Dad was going through? I had given up, but he," I halted, lowering my tone, I exhaled, "If he was still alive now, he would still be hoping you would come back."

She gazed down towards the ground, "I was afraid."

"You were afraid of what?" I whimpered.

"My family, your grandparents, hated humans because a long time ago, humans use to hunt them as mermaid blood gave an enormous source of magic. It was sold to the witches and warlocks, in exchange for a huge amount of money."

"So what? You two were Romeo Juliet to them."

"We were who?" She asked, and then it hit me, 'She doesn't know who Shakespeare was.'

"Never mind," I muttered.

“When I delivered them the message, that  ‘I was going to have you.’ they became furious. They decided that if I didn't abandon you and your father, they would kill you. I apologize for what I have done Carmen, but I didn't have a choice. Forgive me.” She sobbed and got down on her knees.

This sight made me feel even worse, How can I be so cruel to her. I closed my eyes and murmured, “I apologize, Mother. I had no intention of making you upset. Please forgive me.”

I tried to run to her, but then I realize I couldn't. This broke my heart. I can't feel the embrace of my own mother.

“It okay, my love. You don't have to feel that way.” Her face brightened. For a moment there was a pause.

She abruptly spoke, “My daughter do not think like that.”

“Think about what?”

“Concealing vexatious concern from your mother is not a relatively decent thing, Carmen.” She said folding her hands over her chest.

“You mean, You are here because I was assuming that killing myself is better than combatting with the demons,” I said borrowing my eyebrows.

She gave a nod and answered softly, “Don't think like that.” She outstretched her hand towards the lake, and continued, “Maybe I wasn't a good mother back then, but I would not neglect this opportunity. Why do you think like that child?”

My voice began to break with all the horrible memories and the pain that I have ever endured marched through my mind, “It because, just for my sake a lot of people died, those demons killed Father in front of my eyes, my friends all the people whom I could call my family. I just can't, Mother. I can't it hurts to see people suffering for me.”

“Don't neglect the part, where you tried to save their lives too, Carmen. You lured those Demons out of the village to the forest and slew a lot of them. That requires bravery, my child and you have it, everyone has it, but a few people could snatch it out from themselves.”

I gave a small smile, which was immediately returned by my mother, She took a long breath and continued, “Now, I am here, to educate you about specific information that you all desire.”

“And What is that?”

“How to put an end to this combat?”
