44|Sofia's curse.

I was sitting inside the bathroom, with my back towards its door. My legs were folded to my chest, Tears began to rain down my cheeks. ‘Why?’ That's the question that my heart yelled out.

‘Why me?’

There was a little knock at the door, “Carmen. Hey, it's me.”

“Go away, Alexander.” I said sniffing, “I am not in a good state to converse with someone.”

“Come on, Carmen. You can't lock yourself up here.” I stood up, turned the knob, and went outside.

Alexander stood just a few inches from my face. His eyes filled with pity. “Carmen. ” He kissed my forehead, I dived into his arms and burst into tears.

“Why me?” I kept repeating. I can't even imagine how much suffering they are going to deliver me. Just because I was related to some witch.

“Hey, we will not let them take you away. You will find a way to fight them away. We will.”  He kissed the top of my head.

I moved away from him and wiped my face, “You knew my problems all this time. Why didn't you tell me about this?”

“Would you have believed me?” He gave me a half-hearted smile.  I shook my head.

“Did you sent me those journals?” I asked randomly glancing at my feet.

“What are you talking about?” He asked, I gazed up to examine his face. A shade of confusion rested on his face.

“Journals that belonged to that priest Pathiamenos. " I raised my eyebrows.

"No, I didn't."

"What do you mean? Weren't you the one who was sending me those creepy text messages? "

"No! It wasn't me.", Alexander announced, his voice was cold, he looked scared. If he wasn't the one who sent me those journals, then who was it? Was it those people who were trying to kill me?

"Do you think it's them?", Antonio asked entering the room. Alexander put up his eyebrows and turned towards Antonio.

"I don't have any idea. Do you remember that many of Pathiamenos's journals were missing from the library?"

"Yup!" Antonio scratched the back of my neck and turned towards me.

"Mind showing us your phone, Carmen?"

I nodded, I went towards my bed and took the phone from my desk and all those journals. I exhaled, trying to calm myself.

My life's like a bowl full of horrifying entities. This is insane. I handed my phone to Antonio and the diaries to Alexander.

Alexander went through the pages of the journal and Antonio looked focused and I noticed the corner of his lips turn into a smirk. Alexander caught his eyes and asked. "Why are you smiling?"

He pointed my phone towards Alexander and asked, "Does this number reminds you of something?"

"Is it.. "

"Yup."

I scoffed, "Who is it?"

Antonio turned to look at me, he was about to say something, when Alexander interrupted.

"It's them."

Antonio eyed him and smiled and I was pretty sure. It's someone else they are not telling me about. Alexander took both the journals and my phone and kept them aside.

"Toni, Why don't you inform her of other things. You are quite good at that. "

"As you say, brother.”

"How did you two get caught in between all this?" I asked all of a sudden.

Antonio rolled his eyes. Something tells me he doesn't appreciate my question. Alexander gave Antonio an annoyed look.

"There two guardian angels at the beginning, Sofia's son Aristotle and Callix,” Alexander explained. “ Callix was our father. Callix Chambers."

"Oh."

“Our father, he did get out of all of this,” Antonio said abruptly. “He decided to retire from his post due to our mother's request, which was hella Aristotle. He came into this world after ”

“So you weren't born on that island?” I asked.

“No, we were born in England, 1406,” Alexander answered. It

He continued, “Yeah, those were the lovely days, weren't it, Alex?” Alexander returned Antonio a smile. “- but when that message came at our doorsteps informing us that dad's buddy Aristotle died at the hands of those bastards. Using the blade that was created to put us to permanent sleep if we broke any rules. His heart broke and guess what he did.”

“You all went back there?” I guessed.

“My dad left because more Guardian angels were created and he didn't see anything bad coming.” Alexander defended, “Toni. It's been more than 500 years get over your bad blood with dad. Let our old man get some peace. ” Alexander defended his dad.

Antonio continued, “We were 16, Alex. He threw us at an open battlefield, without even thinking twice. Forgive me, if I take a long time to provide him with my forgiveness.”

I felt a bit awkward standing in between their family argument. Alex scoffed, “Look at you. Still the stubborn little child. He blamed himself for his friend, Aristotle's death. He thought that if he wouldn't have left the island then maybe he could've protected him”

“Then he should have taken therapy.”

“Seriously! He wanted to help them so he did what he could.”

“He sent us to take part in that bloody war. You don't send a 16-year-old to a war. ”

“It's past. Let it go. See on the bright side. We are more powerful now. Being half-angel is better than being a soldier.”

“Yeah, You defend him. After all, you are just like him.” He snapped and went out of the room, slamming the door.

Alexander made a clicking sound with his tongue, “Don't mind my brother.”

“He seems pissed off.”

“Yeah, whenever there is mention of our father. He overreacts.”

Maybe Antonio had dreams, that his dad crushed by sending him to the island.
