it was a pleasant day in the order of the phoenix's headquarters when the letters from hogwarts came. maeve's hair was no longer curled but she still had it in a pony tail, despite how messy it was now. she wore the same shorts ginny had worn the night of their sleepover with a rainbow vest tucked into it. her makeup was minimal, just some mascara applied and lipbalm put on.

just as maeve was about to fall asleep into her cereal, an owl placed her letter in front of it. she wiped the sleep out of her eyes and ran upstairs. hermione had made her promise to open the letters together.

"hey, mione. have you got your letter? mine just came," maeve said, still chewing her cereal.

"don't speak with your mouth full maeve, it's gross! you're just like ron i swear," hermione scolded her, "but yes, i do have my letter. open on the count of three?"

maeve nodded and they opened the letters. she skimmed through the list of the books and put it aside so she could give it to mrs weasley, who would be buying all of the books.

"maeve! oh my god! i'm a prefect! i got my prefects badge!" hermione exclaimed.

"well done hermione! there was never any doubt though was there?" maeve chuckled.

she threw the envelope onto her bed and something fell onto the floor. her and hermione looked at each other.

"what was that?" hermione asked, looking just as confused as maeve felt.

she shrugged and went over the the side of the bed, where she had heard the small crashing sound.

"oh," she said, "i'm head girl."

"what!" hermione shrieked, "that's incredible, maeve!"

maeve chuckled, "i guess so. i wonder if eddie's head boy? we were prefects together."

an idea struck hermione, "wait! harry might be a prefect!"

"i mean yeah, or ron," maeve said, but it was too late and hermione had gone running to harry and ron's room.

maeve trailed behind, still holding onto her head girls badge. whilst she was happy about her new position, she had thought that the old slytherin prefect was a better candidate. though, with dumbledore's obvious hate for slytherins, that was probably an unlikely outcome anyway. a ravenclaw was better than a slytherin in his eyes.

"i knew it!" hermione exclaimed, lifting up her letter, "i am too, harry!"

"no! it's ron, not me!" harry said quickly, shoving the badge that was in his hand back into ron's hands.

"well done, ron!" maeve exclaimed, "and harry dont beat yourself up or anything, you don't need to be a prefect. it's too annoying!"

"maeve you cant say that, especially now that your head girl. you need to set a good example," hermione chastised her.

"you're head girl?" george asked incredulously.

"yeah, surprisingly. don't know what dumbledore was thinking to make me head girl," maeve laughed lightly.

"merlin, dumbledore's gone mad," fred said, his tone more spiteful than joking.

maeve looked taken aback for a second but didn't want another fight to be cuz so she ignored it.

the rest of the teens went downstairs for their breakfast, but maeve stayed behind to talk to her brother.

"hey, congrats on being head girl, mae," harry said, an unconvincing smile on his face.

"it's ok to be upset, y'know," maeve told him, "i sure that you are upset you aren't a prefect and you feel bad that you wish ron was the odd one out. but it's fine, it's understandable, really."

"i feel really bad about it, mae."

the siblings who lived talked for a bit longer, comforting each other and congratulating each other.

later on that day, mrs weasley held a party to congratulate the new prefects and head girl.

★彡

that party wasn't the only one held that week. on the 27th of august 1995, maeve potter turned seventeen years old.

remus and sirius had planned her a small party, limited to members of the order. they had gotten her alcohol, all of them acting as if maeve had never tasted it before.

harry had bought maeve some books, ron had gotten her chocolates and hermione and ginny bought her some new clothes, though she suspected that that was for their own gain since they had a habit of stealing her other items of clothing. mrs weasley had made her some treacle fudge on behalf of her and mr weasley. most order members had just wished her a happy birthday, which was expected since she didn't actually know them too well, but tonks had given her loads of her old clothes and some chocolates.

while maeve was dancing and drinking, she bumped into a tall figure.

"wow, maeve you need to slow down!" fred weasley said to her, chuckling at how out of it she seemed.

"maybe you just need to slow up!" drunk maeve pointed out, thinking she had made the smartest point ever.

"i can see why you're a ravenclaw, evie," fred chuckled.

"you haven't called me that in a long time, freddie," maeve pointed out, sobering up slightly at the used of an old nickname.

"well i haven't really had the opportunity to, have i?" fred asked.

"i guess not," maeve faltered. this wasn't exactly what she planned to happen at her birthday gathering.

"anyway, that's not what i wanted to talk to you about," fred carried on, pulling out a jewellery box.

to say maeve was confused would be an understatement. for a minute, she thought he would get down on one knee and propose to her. would she say yes or no? no, surely. yes. she would say no.

"it's just a gift i got for you back at christmas when i got you the charm bracelet." fred told her, opening the box to reveal a stag charm that was most definitely not an engagement ring.

so, apparently drunk maeve was a complete idiot.

at christmas, fred had given her a delicate charm bracelet that she still wore to that day. it only made sense that he would've bought her a charm for it. there was already a lightning bolt to represent harry, and the stag must have been to represent her dad, who was a stag animagus.

"thank you... so much!" maeve stuttered, "it's gorgeous, fred, really."

"it's fine, evie. you deserve it and i bought it months ago so it doesn't even matter," fred told her earnestly. "you should get back to your party, spend time with remus and sirius before we're back at hogwarts."

"yeah, you're right," maeve said, "thank you again, freddie."

keira's note!
