"Hi, Femi" she replied, with a smile on her face. They immediately hugged each other and he smiled, remembering the good old days.
"Kunmi, I really missed you a lot. Long time, no see" Femi said and she quirked an eyebrow at him.
"Then why didn't you just give me a call or something? I wasn't too far away, you know?" she smiled again as they broke the hug. "But I also missed you though" she added and he chuckled.
"So, how have you been?" He asked, taking his tray containing his order with him, she also did same too as they both walked over to meet the guys. He knew they'd be so glad to see her. Kunmi and Femi have been friends for as long as he could remember.
They met back then in highschool and they've been really close ever since. Same also with the rest of the guys which included: James, A.K.A the Iroko of the group. Damola, A.K.A the comical ladies man. Tolu, A.K.A the pervert. Marcus, A. K. A the wise one, and last but not least, Ade - A. K. A the clam and intellect one. They all met back in highschool and since then they've been really good friends. Yes, Kunmi was the only girl in their clique back then but that was because she was kind of like a tomboy and liked the kind of things that they liked. And plus she was a really carefree person.
Kunmi was a young girl in her early twenties, she was twenty-four to be precise. She had thick and bushy, black natural hair and she barely wore any makeup. Although, when she did; it'd be light and she'd look extra pretty. She was tall, not too tall though - with rich, brown skin and honey brown eyes. She had a small but pointed nose, small but slightly pink lips and a small but yet slim body frame.
"Kunmi baby! How far na?" Damola hollered, as he saw Femi and Kunmi approach the table.
"Kunmi, what's up?" Marcus said as they both took a seat at the table.
"I'm fine oh, how about you guys?" She asked.
"We're cool. See as you fine reach. Babe you're looking hot" Tolu added, running his tongue through his bottom lip. They all laughed. They knew he could behave like a perv sometimes, but they also knew that he was just kidding.
"And you too, ever young and dashing" she joked and he smiled at her.
"So what have you been up to? It's been quite long" Ade, who's actually the really quite one, added.
"Well, I just got back from India last week and so I'm just waiting to get a job. I have already applied for a job in St. Augustine Teaching Hospital. How about you guys?" She replied, taking a sip out of her yoghurt.
"Well, I'm working as the manager in my dad's company" James replied, with a shrug.
"Okay, that's nice" Kunmi said, giving him an acknowledging smile.
"And I work as the Bank Manager for Stanbic IBTC" Tolu said.
"And I'm working as a software programmer in the Tecno company here in Lagos" Damola added, with a proud smile on his face.
"Oh wow! That's nice" Kunmi smiled.
"I'm the new CEO in my dad's company" Marcus added, chewing gingerly on his fried rice.
"Nice," Kunmi threw him a smile. "How about you, Femi?" She asked, still wearing her world-class smile on her face.
Femi, who had been too interested in his food to say anything, finally looked up and his eyes met hers.
"I work at Ayoola Group of Companies, as the assistant manager" Femi replied, with a shrug.
"Oh wow! I'm impressed," she smiled "So, I'm the only one that isn't working, yet" she added, feigning disappointment.
"I'm sure you will get the job. There's no need to feel bad, babes. When I'm here for you" Damola added, winking at her. Kunmi let out a hearty chuckle and then smiled at him.
"I know, right? When I have my gee here. These niggas don't know what's up" she laughed and they all stared at her, giving her the look. Did they mean nothing to her?
"So the rest of us are what to you?" Femi asked, raising a brow at her.
"Ah-ah! You guys are also my niggas too na. Don't you trust me?" She said, with her smile still on her face.
"Niggi!" She punched Femi's arm lightly, and he smiled whilst rubbing the part she punched - slightly.
"We do, don't mind all these jealous guys here. We both know I'm the real gee. All these dumbstruck ones are counterfeit" Damola said, giving her his lady charm smile - which doesn't work on Kunmi at all.
He should know that, since he has always tried to use it on her on so many occasions back in highschool - and ended up failing. Back then, Kunmi would just quirk an eyebrow at him and would give him the what's-doing-this-one? Look. And then they would all laugh at him, those were really fun days.
"What's doing this one?" she quirked a brow at him. "You know that doesn't work on me. So just please stop, you look really funny when you do that. I just wonder why that smile throws a lot of girls off balance. It's so funny" she laughed and so did the rest of the guys, including Femi. Damola feigned a childish pout and playfully glared at her.
"After all I've done for you. You still choose to reject me like this. Kunmi, fear God! Fear God oh!" he teased and she laughed.
"You know I love you na. Sweerie! My love, the sugar in my tea... The cockroach in my cupboard" she teased and they all burst into a fit of laughter, this time, Damola also joined in laughing.
Hearing her say the popular 'cockroach in my cupboard' line, made Femi scrunch his nose in disgust. He wondered why men had used that line to woo women. He also wondered if the women were insane... They were being compared to a cockroach, and not even a more sophisticated insect - such as a butterfly - and yet they seemed to enjoy being told that. That made him chuckle.
"Silly girl" he said to her, his deep and gorgeous laughter filling the air.
"Mumu boy" she added and they just shook their heads at the both of them. They would've really made a cute couple, given that they always teased each other like this. Ever since highschool - till now - they never missed an opportunity to tease each other.
["Stupid boy"].The night went by so fast and then they had to part ways, but before that, Kunmi went to meet Femi to tell him that she would be paying him a visit the next day. Femi was happy to hear that and just gave her one of his charming smiles.
"Okay then, goodnight" he said to her and she smiled at him.
"Goodnight dear" she replied before walking away to her car.
Dear? She rarely says that to me.
He thought.
He shrugged before finally getting into the car and driving out of the restaurant. Damola was right, being with his friends was just what he needed and he was glad he didn't miss it.
