Some people found comfort in sitting next to a fireplace or having someone hold onto them and whisper sweet nothing into their ear. James Potter did not find comfort in any of these things, instead finding comfort in food, specifically sweet food th...

chapter eight: a drunk hufflepuff walks into a kitchen
Matilda Allens had no clue why but she was feeling risky one night. She could have maybe chalked it up to getting an excellent mark in both herbology and potions but it didn't matter the reason. All Matilda wanted to do was have a bit of fun. And Louisa and Evan were all on board for it, gathering others that they were friends with in Hufflepuff. Matilda had been worried about Evan recently, knowing that Gabrielle hadn't talked to him since their encounter with the Slytherin boys and she knew that a bit of fun would loosen them all up.
They had all been playing drinking games before one by one people went to bed and they had all passed out before it had even hit ten o'clock causing a bit of disappointment to run through her. The intoxicated girl wanted to have fun, so with a quick conversation and a trade with one of the best herbology students who had access to the greenhouses, Matilda was baking brownies. Evan had told one of the boys on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team that she was an amazing cook and had given her the idea for special brownies.
She had sobered up slightly whilst making them and sat on the bench in the kitchen, licking a spoon covered with the brownie batter which gave her a pleasant feeling of satisfaction. James Potter was in the back of the mind for her but for James, Matilda was the only thing he could think about as he tried to go back to sleep. He hadn't seen her in a few days and it seemed that their baking times would be no more but a gnawing feeling inside him told him to look at the map just to see where she was and check up on her for peace of mind.
"Lumos." He spoke in a quiet voice as he looked at the map, his eyes instantly going to the kitchens where her name floated on the page causing him to shoot up. He was the only one in the dorm as he had had a nap throughout the afternoon and had only awoken twenty minutes prior.
"Where are you going, Prongs?" Peter asked as he stepped into the common room, wearing a white t-shirt with plaid sleep pants.
"You should know by now that when James leaves at this hour, he only leaves for the pie witch." James rolled his eyes as he proceeded to walk to the common room door. The teasing had just gotten worse especially from Sirius who took every chance he got to tease him.
"Filch is going out and about tonight. Better take this." Remus quickly went and grabbed the invisibility cloak, handing it to James who smiled with appreciation.
"Thanks, Mooney." Remus nodded before returning to his friends where Sirius shouted back at James.
"You know the drill. Bring back some delicious food for us and stop keeping her gifts for yourself, you selfish bastard." James rolled his eyes, exiting the common room before navigating the corridors under the safety of his invisibility cloak. He pushed open the door to see Matilda smiling and swinging her legs.
