chapter nineteen: an extremely good and satisfying nap
Evan's hands shook violently as he walked toward Gabrielle Rosenberg, his anxiety creeping in the back of his mind, waiting to consume him but he would not let it. After Matilda's breakdown, Evan knew that he had to get his head out of his ass and stop being scared. He rushed toward her on the train platform as all of the students of Hogwarts began to board the train to go celebrate Christmas with their families.
"Gabrielle." The girl turned at the sound of her name and almost started crying at the sight of Evan Morberg. She couldn't hate him for how he had dealt with her family, she would've done the same thing. She was just thankful that he hadn't spread it out among the students, although it wouldn't have mattered much anyway, the other students already assumed that most of the Slytherins were Death Eaters and so were their parents.
"Evan, how are you?" Evan shook his head and stepped forward, going closer to her causing a hot red blush to form on her cheeks. Damn her body, she thought.
"I'm sorry." Gabrielle raised an eyebrow, her eyes darting around uncomfortably as she tried to think about why he was apologizing.
"For what?" Evan sighed and took another step forward, his smell invading her senses.
"For being a bit of a wanker. I shouldn't have treated you that why and some things have happened that made me realize that I treated you unfairly." Evan looked at his feet, his nerves bubbling up as he tried to form the right words, his cheeks going red.
"I'm an ass and I'm so sorry that I did that. I was scared and I still am. I just hope you can forgive me." Evan looked up from his feet and up at Gabi whose lip quivered as he spoke and tears ran down her cheeks. They simmered in silence for a moment, simply just looking at each other, Evan not daring to move an inch.
"Come on then." Gabrielle held out her arms, going on the tips of her toes, Evan let out a small laugh and swooped her up. Gabrielle laughed as he spun her around, some students giving the two judgemental stares.
The Christmas thrill was in the air as others talked excitedly about all the things they were going to do with their families and some talked about going abroad. Louisa was going to America to go back and visit her family, a thing she was quite dreading considering she was the only one in her family to go to Hogwarts and they were all fascinated by that. Evan's older sister was in Sweden working as a healer and his parents thought that instead of spending Christmas in plain old United Kingdom, they'd go and explore Sweden. Remus and Peter would be spending their holiday just with their parents like the wholesome people they were.
Matilda Allens was a girl who had been pitied during the week before holidays as word spread fast of her grandmother's death and then her fainting. In all honesty, she wanted to crawl into a ball and die on the spot. James had been supporting her throughout the week, assisting her with anything she needed and reassured her on everything. Today's reassurance as the train began to move was the fact that Matilda believed James' parents would not like her.
