chapter thirty three: yellow & floral armchairs

Matilda frowned as she looked out of the window at her store, pouting slightly as she knew the snow would not come as easily as it had come at Hogwarts. She loved snow but she was happy not to trudge through it this year. Her shop was quiet, her having sent her employee home early as she began to pack up shop.

Matilda couldn't believe she was getting married next month, feeling her excitement begin as her day started with the date November 30th on the calenders. It seemed a bit bizarre to her as she thought back to her days at Hogwarts. Her bell rang at the door causing her to straighten her back and turn with a wide smile.

"Hello, Welcome to May's! Oh, hi Peter." Matilda couldn't hide her surprise as the quiet boy walked in, smiling at Matilda as he looked at the pies.

"Hello! I'm sorry to barge in like this, I know James is off on Order business and I thought I could come to help you pack up because I know he usually does." Matilda smiled gratefully at him, her surprise washing off her face.

It wasn't that she didn't like Peter but she hadn't really gotten to know him all that well. For a brief moment when Louisa was going through her quiet boy phase, she knew the girl had a crush which quickly disappeared after she realized quiet boys would bore her a little. The two began cleaning up, some small talk being exchanged between the two as he swept and she packed away her leftovers.

She could see why Peter had become friends with the other boys. He was quiet and simple, only telling stories about what James, Sirius, or Remus had done. Matilda came to the conclusion as she stepped out of the shop, Peter behind her, that he seemed lonely. She understood why he would with James and Sirius both having partners and Remus being too concerned with trying to find a job to worry about things like that.

"Thank you so much, Peter. You really helped me out. You should come by and work at the shop whenever I'm sure Poppy would love to work with you." Matilda pondered to herself whether or not setting Peter up with one of her employees was a good or a bad idea. She didn't have time to think as Peter nodded his head and smiled.

"Thank you. I will! I'll see you later then." Matilda waved at him as he turned and apparated, Matilda, frowning before deciding to take a stroll. As much as apparating was easier, she loved the strolls in the cool London air as the sun began to set. It's not as if her place was particularly far, being just short of a fifteen-minute walk. She admired all the people on the street, watching as kids laughed with their parents, couples held hands and friends joked around.

She wondered to herself how she had let herself become so whipped by James Potter as she found herself missing him. He had only been gone for two days, off following up on something, Matilda wasn't quite sure what, she didn't ask too many questions when it came to his job within the order. She shook her thoughts of her fiancée and felt her excitement build for tonight.
