Some people found comfort in sitting next to a fireplace or having someone hold onto them and whisper sweet nothing into their ear. James Potter did not find comfort in any of these things, instead finding comfort in food, specifically sweet food th...

chapter twenty two: a kiss from 1977 to 1978
Matilda felt like she was in a perfect bubble, she stood in the kitchen, flipping a pancake and smiling as it sizzled on the pan. It had been a couple of days since Christmas and Matilda never wanted it to end. She had her headphones resting over her ears and Elvis Presley sang 'Burning Love' to her. She swung her hips, completely unaware of anything around her. Euphemia and Fleamont had gone to a friend's house for the new year, leaving the teenagers to fend for themselves.
Although it pretty much just meant that Matilda was now the provider of the house for the two idiotic boys who had just invited their other two idiotic friends for New Years'. Matilda hummed to the song as she flipped a pancake and slid it onto a plate before putting down the pan and turning off the stove. She felt two arms come around her and wrap around her waist, feeling a pair of lips press behind her ear. She slid her headphones off and smiled widely as she put them down, the lips moving to her neck.
"Well good morning to you too." She felt James laugh against her skin as she turned in his arm, his hands going to her waist as he lifted her onto the counter so they could be at the same height.
"I was cold after you left the bed this morning," James mumbled as Matilda giggled and took off his glasses, placing them on the tip of her nose.
"I would say you look you cute but I'm as blind as a bat, love." The two chuckled and Matilda safely returned the glasses where they belonged and she had to say that they looked much better on him than they did on her. The two stared at each other for a sec before James quickly stole a kiss and pulled away causing Matilda to frown.
"Don't tease me like that." Her hands went to the back of his neck and pulled him in for a sweet kiss.
"Merlin, in the kitchen. For shame." The two froze and pulled away slowly as they watched Sirius pick up and bite a pancake, shaking his head whilst he did so.
"Padfoot, you're really going to say that you haven't snogged a girl in my kitchen or done anything else of the sorts?" James quirked up an eyebrow at his friend who shrugged as he swallowed the bite of pancake.
"You got me there, mate." Sirius believed he would have felt more like a third wheel now that the two were being disgustingly cute but in actuality, it actually felt kind of natural. Sirius would never have said it to any of his friends but he actually kind of envied them. Matilda blushed slightly as she jumped off the counter, pulling down James' sweater to ensure she wasn't too exposed but that might've been all for nothing as a door creaking and slamming closed caused her to jump as Peter and Remus walked in, both their eyes going to her bare legs.
"Blimey, who's taken your pants?" Remus joked as he turned to look at Sirius and James, the two boys chuckling as she attempted to hide behind James' much larger frame.
