chapter eighteen: a bit of a drama queen, if i do say so

Louisa and Evan had been concerned about Matilda but hurried off to their common room that night, being told by Madam Pomfrey that she would be held in the Hospital Wing until tomorrow morning. They had accepted that answer and had done as told whereas James Potter wasn't one to do as told. The boy paced in his common room, his eyes glancing over to the invisibility blanket.

"I think you should wait until morning," Peter said, shrugging his shoulders as they debated on whether or not it was smart or plain stupid.

"I just want to make sure that she's alright. I'm worried, we're friends." His three friends couldn't have rolled their eyes harden and before Sirius could speak up and make a smartass comment, Remus beat him to the punch.

"Don't be ridiculous, Prongs. If you fancy the girl, take her out." James paused his face and looked at Remus, his eyes widening before he continued his pacing.

"She's my friend, I don't fancy her. She was just there for me when Lily and I broke up. Like you guys were." Sirius leaned forward in his seat and shrugged.

"Okay, then if you don't fancy her, I'm sure you can wait until morning to check on her." James stopped and tapped his foot on the carpeted floors and frowned before grabbing his invisibility cloak and walking out of the common room as his friends snickered.

"Our boy falls in love so easily. It's honestly adorable to watch." Sirius sighed causing Remus and Peter to nod along with him, slight smiles on their faces. God knows that if James hadn't preoccupied himself with the pie witch than he would be a complete and utter mess right around about now.

James navigated the hallways of Hogwarts, the door creaking open to the hospital wing causing him to flinch as it made a small noise but he continued on. He looked into each bed, not many of them filled until he got to the last one, a white sheet covered all around it so that whoever was in there could be given the feeling of being alone. James let his fingers skim the fabric, only his hand visible to everyone else and as he pulled it back, he could see Matilda lying on her side with her eyes closed.

James slipped through the curtain and closed it behind him, leaning down to look at what Madam Pomfrey said was wrong with her. He skimmed through it until he got to the information he wanted. Fainting caused by Anxiety and Stress. Nausea caused by eating bad muggle food or possibly an illness. James frowned at this as he threw off his cloak and looked at the chart once more.

"Why are you stressed?" James muttered to himself unaware that the girl who was now awake was looking at him with confusion.

"James?" The Gryffindor boy got flustered quickly and dropped the board causing a loud sound to echo before he quickly put it back, pausing for a moment. After they heard no sound, James turned to Matilda and was pleased to see she had the life back in her complexion and she didn't look as sick as before. The blush in her cheeks had returned and he had never felt more relief.
