SCENE FIVE

(Payless Shoes. CASPER and GABE in front of LEX, whos ignoring them. GABE pushes CASPER forward.)

CASPER: I like your sideburns. Wolverine, right?

LEX: Let's see the money.

CASPER: What?

LEX: Its from Japan.

Its a gray oblong pill,

Quantum nanotechnology CPU

The quantum computer in the pill

Will travel through your blood until

It implants in your brain and it tells you what to do

CASPER: ...How did you know why Im here?

LEX: Just look at you, kid. (CASPER pulls out the money.) Thats four hundred?

CASPER: Four?

LEX: Is that a problem?

CASPER: No! Actually, there's a guy at my school charging... (off GABE) Uh. Four hundred? Wow. Well, if you insist.

(CASPER hands over the money. LEX presents him with a shoebox.)

CASPER: Ladies' running shoes?

(LEX opens the box...and pulls out a small gray pill.)

LEX: Just so we're clear: this is untested technology. And it's not exactly legal. Which is why you're paying for it with cash in the back of a shoe store. I take no responsibility for what you might do with it. Or what it might do with you.

CASPER: What might it—

LEX: To activate, take it with Mountain Dew. Don't know why. Just something about Mountain Dew. And, this is important—

(DAHLIA OPHINE enters the store, and LEX barks at her.)

LEX: Im sold out!

DAHLIA: Of...shoes?

LEX: Oh, youre here for shoes. My bad. (to CASPER) Scram, kid.

CASPER: Wait, you were saying something important...

LEX: Oh yeah. All sales final. (ad-lib to DAHLIA as he leads her off) We just got in a killer pair of pumps...
