Aly seemed a little weird tonight when we were putting the girls to bed, and wanted to sleep with Brad and I, so worried about her I let her. I woke up to Brad and her because she was kicking him and wasn't really breathing right, but we thought it was a bad dream since it stopped and we got her to go back to sleep. A few hours later I woke up again, this time something making me think I should check and make sure she's okay. I look to my side and see her laying there, again having some trouble breathing. Not like she's dying, but enough to scare me, and I wake Brad telling him we have to do something. He calls her doctor and she says we should probably take her to the ER to get her checked out to make sure her airways aren't blocked. I throw on a reasonable outfit and grab everything we need whilst Brad calls Courteney asking her to come stay with Shay and Jess.
Courteney comes and we quickly get in the car to leave. Aly is still the same, but is drifting in and out of sleep until she has trouble breathing, then wakes up freaking out. I sit in the back with her so I can keep her calm and Brad drives. We get there and he carries her in to the front desk where we check her in and hand me forms to fill out.
I try to concentrate, but it's hard not knowing what's wrong with her. She has no history of any medical problems and I'm scared it could be something seriously wrong. Brad keeps telling me it'll be okay, and I know it will, but I'm still scared.
"Alyssa Pitt." The doctor says and Brad and I walk up to him. He tells us to follow him to a rooms and starts to look at Aly. I watch him carefully as he does some chest compressions, listens to her breathing, and some other things before putting everything away and looking back at Brad and I "Well, the good news is I don't think there's anything blocking her airway, but it would like to do a chest X-ray just to make sure if you're okay with that."
"That's fine." I answer him. They then take her over to do the X-ray saying it could take a little depending on how long it takes them to get her to stay still.
Brad and I sit there almost completely silent. We're both relieved there isn't anything stuck, but still a little scared not knowing what else it could be. I want nothing more than to be back in bed sleeping and this never happening, but sadly I'm stuck here. He wraps his arms around me pulling him closer to me to help comfort me "She'll be okay. For all we know it could just be bad nightmares and she forgets to breath. She's little, she doesn't always know that stuff."
"It's just hard seeing her like this and not knowing what's going on." I admit to him why I'm so scared "I just want to take her home and see her be back to her normal self."
"And she will be, soon." He kisses me and we stay like that for what seems like hours before they finally bring her back, and she is walking which is a good sign. She wants to sit with us so I put her on my lap and the doctor says he wants to look into things and then will be back. I let her play a game on my phone whilst we wait for the doctor to come back, and Brad and I continue talking about it.
The doctor walks back in a few minutes later with Aly's chart, and a few other things in his hand "I looked at the X-rays and there definitely isn't anything blocking her airways, which is good, but I think she may have asthma." He hands me a pamphlet about it along with an inhaler "It's very difficult to diagnose in children under 6, and it might not be asthma, but to be on the safe side I want you to have this, and use it like directed if anything like this happens again. Since it is so difficult, it's best for you to write down anytime this happens, what she may have ate or drank before and how she is after the inhaler." He stops for a minute to make sure Brad and I are on track with what he's saying "You'll want to schedule an appointment with her pediatrician as soon as you can, and she'll most likely do some more testing if she feels it's necessary."
"Thank you, so much." Brad says to him as we get up "So, can we take her home?"
"I don't see why not. It's best if you can keep her with you so you can see if the inhaler is needed, or if you notice any weird behavior."
I get up after Brad holding Aly "We'll do that, thanks a lot." He gives us a few more tips about what to do, and we leave. I put Aly in her seat and get in the front with Brad since this time she is sleeping and breathing a lot better.
Brad takes my hand in a reliving way "She's okay, that's what matters." I don't say anything, but silently agree with him.
