"Since you will be matching my schedule, you will be working Monday's,Tuesdays, Thursday's and Friday's. It's only four days, but it will be twelve hour shifts. So, starting today, your schedule will change." Cecil was so excited at the fact that I would be working with her.

"No weekends?" I almost always worked weekends before.

"Nope! Now, there is work to be done. Come on."

I followed Cecil back down to the first floor. Most of the hospital looked the same but different layouts. It truly was a maze of you weren't familiar with the hospital.

"Now, I know you have given prescriptions after someone else gave a diagnosis, is that all?"

I ducked my head and nodded. I wasn't proud to admit it. However, there was nothing I could do to change it. Even though I didn't diagnose patients and help treat them, I had the knowledge. I just didn't have the experience.

"Well, we will have to fix that right away. I know that you are a smart and fast learner. You will pick this up in no time." Cecil was so confident in me. That made me feel better. At least I had a teacher that knew me.

"Let's start you off with a simple one. Are you good with kids?" I nodded. I loved kids.

"Okay. There is a little boy who is in for a checkup. He hates needles and is going to need a couple shots today. Can you handle it?"

"Yes! I can do anything you ask."

"Great." She stopped in front of one of the doors.

    Room 303

"We will both go in there, I'll do the talking for now and you will handle the patient, okay?" I nodded.

She opened the door to a room big enough to fit at least ten people. I could tell it was a kids room by the Mickey Mouse decorations on the walls.

There were three people already in the room, the little boy, and his parents. He was a cute little thing, his form said he was six. No allergies or medial issues. He just hates needles.

"Hi! I'm Dr. Mason and this is my apprentice Dr. Eyler."

"Hi!" I smiled kindly and looked at the little boy. "And what's your name sweetheart?" I wanted him to feel comfortable around me.

He ducked his head "Liam." His voice was barely a squeak.

I let out a soft laugh.

"Well Liam, we will make this check up fun and quick." I gave him a wink.

Cecil told the parents the pretty version of why I was here. She didn't mention that I had to go through a test before I could get to my real job. She just told them that I was still learning but I was more than capable of doing their sons checkup.

The nurses had already weighed him before we came in. I took his blood pressure and listened to his heart and lungs. All good. I then checked his eyes and ears. He was a perfect healthy little boy.

"You my dear, are perfectly healthy!"

"Does that mean no shots?" He obviously didn't want shots.

"I'm sorry 'punkin, but I have to." I gave him a little pout. I didn't want him to be scared.

He was already panicking at the thought. Then the nurse came in with the needles.

Great timing. I thought sarcastically.

I grabbed the boys hands.

"Hey, no need to fear. I want to tell you a story."

I sat beside him with the needles next to me.

"I want you to close your eyes. There once was a brave little boy, one like yourself. He too hated needles, and would kick and scream over them."

I started cleaning a spot in his arm. He opened his eyes and stared at me in fear.

"Close your eyes. You have to visualize the story silly." He closed his eyes.

"Nobody could get him to calm down when he saw the needles. However, one doctor told him about how there was this one boy who turned into a toad when he didn't get his shots." The boy smiled. He only had to have two shots, then he would be done.

I picked up the first needle and gave him his shot. He didn't even notice it.

"The little boy didn't want to turn into a toad because then he couldn't hug his parents. So, he didn't fight with the doctors anymore." I gave him the second shot.

"You can open your eyes. It's all done."

"What about the shots?" He really didn't even notice.

"Already done." I smiled.

That concluded the visit and we left the room.

"Omg Lilliana! You were amazing!" Cecil exclaimed after leaving the room.

"You just have to get their mind off the shots." I shrugged.

The rest of the day went smoothly.  A wide range of patients came in, some with weird visits, and others more normal. I didn't even realize how fast the time flew by until Cecil said I could go home.

The drive home was peaceful. The sunset was breathtaking. The oranges and reds mixing with the yellows and pinks. It looked like something out of a movie. I just wanted the world to stop so I could bottle this moment up.

When I pulled into the driveway, I noticed Coles car.

He knew I worked today. What's he doing here? OH GOD! He isn't trying to cook again is he?

I jumped out of the car and rushed inside. I smelled food. Well, nothing is burning?

"Cole?"

"In the kitchen."

My precious kitchen. I thought.

I hesitantly walked into the kitchen. Whatever he was making, it smelled amazing.

"Please tell me that you didn't burn my kitchen down?"

He chuckled.

"Your kitchen is safe babe."

I let out a sigh.

"I need to go change before dinner. How much longer do you think it will take?"

"About 20 minutes maybe."

"Okay.  I'm gonna shower real quick."

I went up to my room to shower. I couldn't wait to tell Cole what happened today. I always showered after work because of all the germs.

Once done, I put on my fuzzy pink pajama pants and a loose t-shirt. Even though it was summer, the air conditioning could be a little chilly sometimes.

I went back downstairs to see that Cole had the table all set and dinner ready.

"You didn't have to wait for me did you?" I hated making people wait on me.

"Not at all. How was work?"

I had this big, idiotic grin on my face.

"I have great news!"
