Ch.16

That night I went to the bridge. I wanted to stare at the water crash against the rocks and chill out for a little bit.
I was sitting down on the sidewalk and held onto the railing while I watched the water.

Someone sat next to me and when I looked up I saw Elijah, "hey."

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"Well like you said this bridge connects us and I was kinda bored so I decided to come back."
I nodded my head and we went back to being silent.

"You know (y/n), I already know about you and Jake."

I looked up from staring at my shoes, "you do?"

"Yea, but it's chill. I won't stop loving you ever, I'll just wait til he messes up." He nudged my shoulder, indicating that what he said was a joke.
I laughed a little and then he handed me a CD. "Elijah nobody uses these anymore."

"We do, at least we did. Before we thought it was better and we used to get so frustrated when the back would get scratched and it would stop working. That was the good times." I smiled and took it from him.

"Listen to it when you're in your car. Lean back into your seat, think of me, and smile. You promise you'll do that?"

"I promise." I smiled at him and he looked at me sadly. "What's wrong?"

"I wish I didn't let you go, but I'm not going to kiss you or anything. You're my best friend and you're also dating my other best friend." He got up from the concrete and helped me up.

"Thanks for the CD Elijah."

"Yea, it's nothing."

"I'll see you later." I hugged him goodbye and got my skateboard and headed the other direction towards my house.

As soon as got home I ran inside, grabbed my keys, and jumped into the car.
I slid the CD into the CD player connected to the car, leaned back in my seat, and closed my eyes.

It was my favorite song to listen to when I trying to get over the break up with Jackson. This time as I thought about Elijah, I knew why he chose this song. It wasn't saying to get over anyone. He was saying that if he really showed me that he loved me he would back up. When I realized this I started to cry in my seat. I didn't want Elijah to back up, I wanted him to be by my side all the time. As the song was about to end I sang along to the last lyrics and sat up in the chair and started to clean my tears. I was rubbing my eyes with my hoodie when I heard his voice, "ayyy I knew you would cry." He wasn't there, he recorded it onto the CD. "(Y/n) I love you. I'll be waiting for you, when you are ready. If you never are then just continue to listen to this CD. Bye Chubs. A message from your first kiss, Elijah "Bubs" Lamb." After he stopped talking "Lo Que Siento" by Cuco started to play. That was our favorite song to listen to when we would hang out.

I leaned back into my seat again and whispered, "love you too Bubs."

Jake had his arms around me while we were looking at different outfits on my phone when Elijah came to sit down. We were all at lunch and Jackson was the only one eating the disgusting stuff they put on our tray that they also call food.

"Sup guys."

"Hey." We all said. It was officially Friday, meaning two days of pure freedom from jail.

"So what are we doing this weekend?" Jackson asked.

"Uhh I don't know, your turn to pick." Jake pointed at an outfit that looked ugly and started to laugh and so did I, I showed the guys and they had a disgusted look on their face.

"What is that?" Elijah said.

"I don't know, I'm just trying to find some new clothes." I said.

"Wait a minute that's a great idea. Let's go to the mall tomorrow."

"Alright I'm in."
"Same" Jake said kissing me on the cheek.
I was looking down at my phone when a notification popped up from an unknown number.

"Who's that?"

"I don't know." I opened the message and it said, "You look really cute today."

"Oh heck no." Jake said.

"What I don't?"
"No you do babe, just who is that?" He kissed me again for forgiveness and then looked at the number.

He grabbed my phone and started to call the number, "Jake what the heck? Give me my phone."

"Hello?" He said into the phone. Him and some random person were continuing to chat back and forth. "Where are you?"

A random guy waved over to where we were and I waved back.
"What are you doing?"

"I'm waving, it's common courtesy." I waved again and the guy smiled.
"Stop that." Jake grabbed my hand and turned me around to look at him.

"Is little Jakey jealous?" Jackson said making fun of him.

"Oh shut up, he's a good looking guy and I want (y/n) all the myself." He said smiling at me.

"I haven't seen Jake jealous like this, not even with Jaimie." Elijah blurted out and regretted it instantly.

Jake looked at Jackson with wide eyes and I looked at all three of them. Elijah was acting like he was focusing on his food and Jackson was rubbing the back of his neck. Jake just looked plain nervous.

"Who's Jaimie?"

"No one that concerns you." I pulled away my hands from his grip and crossed my arms.

"Does she go here?"

"Yea."

"Who is she then-?" I was interrupted by a group of four girls coming up to our table.

"Hey Jakey. Can we talk later?" The girl I'm assuming was Jaimie had curly hair and light eyes. She literally looked like a doll. She was about to touch Jakes hair when I swiped her hand away, "I think that's a no." I said staring at her.

"Ohhh I see, Jakey that's a real down grade." She said looking me up and down. "See you around." She waved and smiled at him and then her and her friends walked away.

"That's Jaimie." Elijah said.

"I'm gonna go to the restroom real quick." I got up, rushed to the restroom and looked at the mirror,

Was I really a downgrade for Jake?
