It's funny how time flies. Not so long ago I was just an intern and now I'm a permanent member of staff. The office has 3 new interns and I smile when I pass them by the Lobby listening to whatever Sybil is telling them. It brings back memories of when I first started at this law firm.
It's court day today and I'm dreading it, because it's one of my client's hearing. Most people outside of this career field think being a Lawyer or Attorney is about lying for your client, which is absolutely not true. When I pass Greg's office I notice one of the interns from this morning sitting across him. Her blonde hair is neatly pulled back into a ponytail.
I watch them for a moment before I carry on walking. Going to a hearing is always stressful, but since I started working I've had to learn that whatever the Judge's decision is, is not personal. They are doing their job the same way I'm doing mine and I have to respect that.
.....
"Two, Three... Come on Anna!" My trainer shouts. "Can I take a break?" I ask him. "No come on give me five more" he says. I do five squats before I fall to the ground. Dylan shakes his head looking at my face. "You're the one who wants a firmer ass, but can't give me 50 squats without breaking" he chuckles.
"That was 100 Dylan!" I sit up and take a sip of my water. "Anyway, I notice you're here alone today, where's lover boy?" he raises his brow. "He's working late, so I'm riding solo" I take a drink again. "hmm I see. Alright break is over. Get up" and with that I get back to training.
By the time I exit the gym it's 19:45 pm and I have a text from Greg.
*I might stay at work for longer, I love you*
I decide to buy a salad and smoothie from the outlet close to the house and call it dinner. I really hate how he's so busy with work lately, but I'm not complaining. He's just busy with this case and I understand that he has to work late so I can't be mad at him.
The next morning I wake up and hear the water running from the shower. A few moments later Greg comes out with water dripping down his hair. "Morning Babe" he comes over the bed and kisses my cheek. "I didn't hear you come back last night" I get up to make the bed. "You were dead asleep" he simply says walking to the closet.
"Okay" I simply say not really in the mood to ask too many questions. He turns to look at me rolling his eyes a bit, but I choose to ignore it. It's that time of the month so my mood swings are on a Rollercoaster and I don't want to start any argument with Greg.
*******
It's Friday night and just like every night for the past two weeks I'm by myself, because Greg has been working late. I decide to call Kevin to hangout, we haven't seen each other in a while. I tell him I will go over his place simply because I just want to get out of the house tonight.
I get out of my baggy tshirt and wear skinny jeans, a white plain tshirt with my biker jacket. I pair it up with sneakers leaving my hair down and apply light makeup. A few minutes later I'm driving to Kevin's apartment. I feel the nostalgia as I park my car, feeling a slight pinge in my heart from missing the complex, but Greg's house is nice so I won't complain.
After knocking once Kevin opens up with a smile. "Hey kid" he pulls me into his embrace. I laugh at him calling me "kid". I look behind and notice that there are people inside."Why didn't you tell me you had people, now I feel like I'm intruding" I tell him. "No relax, they are cool people" he walks me in and I greet everyone.
Kevin tells me that things between him and Lilly weren't going great so they decided to call it quits. He seems to be handling the break up pretty well, but I guess it's because they weren't together that long.
"I love your hair" the girl, who's name is Gail smiles at me sipping her soda. "Thank you" I smile back and we continue talking. I won't lie I'm having a good time and it's nice to meet new people. I've learnt that the four of them go to the same church, but I never saw them the times I went with Kevin for the Sunday services.
My phone rings.
Greg.
I excuse myself and stand in the small balcony while closing the sliding door behind me.
"Hey" I cooly say.
"Where are you?" he asks a bit hush. I am silent for a minute.
"Well?" he speaks again. "I'm at Kevin's" I answer.
"What are you doing there?" he raises his voice.
"I just wanted to get out of the house" I tell him. "Oh and you couldn't tell me this?" he asks and I'm sure he's rolling his eyes. He does it a lot when he's annoyed.
"I just did" I tell him. "Seriously Anna, you could've sent a simple text. Anyways I'm back from work so come home now" he orders.
"Excuse me?" I'm slightly annoyed by his attitude. "Come back now or I will come there and cause a scene. You don't want that" he says. "Okay fine" I say then hangup.
I lie to Kevin and tell him an emergency came up and I have to go back home. I exchange goodbyes with everyone and promise to hopefully see them again.
