I haven't left home yet, but I'm already missing it. It's weird I know, like how am I missing home when I'm still home. It's packing your belongings and reminding yourself that in a few hours you won't be in the familiarity of being home. It's that feeling of wishing you could pack your parents with you.
"Thank you for coming home for Christmas sweety" mom says entering my room. "You don't have to Thank me mom" I smile while folding a pair of jeans. "I know, but sometimes once children move into their own place they seem to forget about home" "she says and I hear the sadness in her voice.
" Aww mom, I'll always be your baby girl. I will never turn my back on you and dad. I promise" I sit on the bed with her and hold both her hands. Her eyes are tearing up. We are such emotional creatures. I shake the silly thought and focus on her face."I know I know" She wipes the tear from her eyes and forces a smile.
"Anna I was jus-" Greg comes in an apologises for interrupting. "Oh no Greg, come in I was just heading back to the kitchen. Be quick so we can have lunch before you go" she stands up and leaves the room. "Is everything okay?" he asks and I nod and he ask what he wanted to say.
......
The airport is full. It's a few days before New Years day and most people are traveling so it makes sense. I had originally planned on being home until after New Years, but Greg wanted us to go back to Cape Town because he has a "Suprise" for me. He wouldn't tell me what it is so I just have to wait till we get back.
Once we safely land, we get an uber and are back home. I laugh at Greg when he checks if out cars are still safely parked in the garage. "The alarm company would've notified you if anything dodgy occurred while we were away" I say taking our packs to the room.
"We have to be ready in an hour" he says looking at his watch. "Babe we just landed and I'm tired" I say rubbing my neck. "And where exactly are we going? " I look at him. "shhh just get ready" he leaves the room taking his phone. "Atleast tell me what to wear!" I shout. "Anything comfortable!" he shouts from the hallway.
I get dressed in my Adidas sweats, hoody and sneakers. I will kill him if he is taking me out for dinner and had me looking like this. My hair is in a messy bun and I have zero makeup on. He comes back and smiles at me." Good, let's get going" he says kissing my forehead. It's only 18:00pm when we leave the house and I have no idea where we are going.
I notice that we are driving towards the airport and I raise my brows looking at him. "Babe?" I question him, he grins and shakes his head as if telling me to not say anything. He continues driving and once we arrive at the airport I see him pulling out suitcases from the trunk. "Greg what the heck?" I chuckle. I see Jude and Chris coming towards up.
"What is happening?" I ask still in confusion. "In here is everything you need for the next few days. Don't worry, while you guys were away I packed things you might need for this trip and even have new stuff. My gift to you" she smiles patting the Baby blue suitcase.
"Trip?" I look at Greg. "Thanks guys. We will see you when we come back" Greg hugs both his siblings and they turn to hug me. "Enjoy yourselves" Chris says and they get in the car. "Babe what is happening?" I turn to him and he pulls out our passports along with the tickets.
Paris.
I look at him in disbelief. "What?" I look at him. "Come I will tell you everything later, but now we really have to go or else we will miss this flight" he pulls me. I can't believe I'm going to Paris. I've always wanted to go to Paris and I knew I would go there one day, but I hadn't imagined it would be now.
I'm still a bit flabbergasted about everything and as the plane takes off I look at my boyfriend and wonder how he managed to pull this whole thing without me catching on.
