Aelin POV

I woke up, my back stinging like a bitch. The curtains of mine and Lysandra's room were pulled back and the sun was shining brightly. It has to be at least midday. I glanced at the clock on my  bedside table - 2 o'clock. What had happened last night for me to stay in bed this late? Oh yeah, the party. Lysandra was sat on her bed, scrolling through her phone with a worried look on her face.

"Is everything okay?" I asked her, my voice hoarse. Probably from all of my 'singing' last night. She looked up from her phone and she looked how I felt, with dark circles under her eyes and a very pale face, I guessed I wasn't the only one who drank a little too much last night.

"It's Clarisse. She has another client for me - tonight. I can't go looking like this." She gestured to her tired face and very messy hair.

"How long have you got to get ready?"

"I have to be out the door by five. So three hours."

"Does Aedion know?"

"Know about what?"

"Clarisse. Considering you two were jamming your tongue's into each other's throats last night, I assume there's something going on between you."

"We were what?"

"Oh yeah. Serious PDA."

"Oh God. I need - I need to talk to him. Do you know where he will be?"

"In his room, most likely. I'll take you there in a second, just let me get dressed." I got out of bed, still in my golden dress from last night. I started to walk towards the bathroom when  Lysandra stopped me.

"Woah, Aelin, what happened to your back?"

"What do you mean? It hurts like hell but I haven't done anything to it."

"No wonder it hurts like hell, you have a massive tattoo running all down the back of it."

"What?" I ran straight I to the bathroom, trying to get a look at my back in the mirror. There it was, a massive tattoo running down my back, in a language I don't even know.

"I've only seen one person with tattoos like that before-" I cut Lysandra off, knowing exactly what she was going to say.

"Rowan Whitethorn." I finished for her, "I'm gonna kill him." Lysandra looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

"Not literally!" We both laughed, "I'll get a shower and get changed now- looks like we both have people to 'talk' to."

20 minutes later Lys and I are walking to Aedion's room.

"So do you remember much from last night?" She asked me, worry etched on her face. Whether it was about her client tonight or about the talk she had to have with my cousin, I didn't know.

"Bits and pieces. I remember arriving and dancing with Fenrys. Then I went up onto the roof and met Rowan. I don't remember anything after that. Oh, and I remember seeing you and Aedion making out and Elide and Lorcan doing the same."

"Me too. I only really remember arriving." We rounded a corner, and Lorcan was talking to Elide.

"Hey shitface!" I yelled, and they both looked at me, Elide surprised, Lorcan angry. Then again, I did just call him shitface.

"What do you want." He growled, earning a smack on the arm from Elide.

"Watch your manners. She's my friend." She said to him, making me grin like crazy.

"Where's Rowan." I demanded, and Lysandra looked at me like I was crazy. Probably for insulting Lorcan and demanding answers off him. Oh well.

"Why should I tell you?"

"Because I'm Elide's friend."

"He's in his room. Next door to Aedion." Elide answered for him.

"Wait- I swear he said he lives with Fenrys last night." That sneaky son if a bitch.

"No - only Fenrys and Connall have that house. Something about their parents being loaded."

"Perfect. Thanks Elide." I winked at Lorcan and walked past them, linking arms with Lysandra. When we were out of earshot of them she turned to me.

"I can't believe you did that." She said.

"Why? He's just a dude."

"He's Lorcan Salvaterre. No one messes with him."

"Well, I do. Now, here we are. I believe this is where we part ways." I unlinked my arm and walked to Rowan's door. Lys and I nodded at eachother, as if to say good luck. We both knocked at the doors.

Lysandra POV

"Oh, Lysandra! Hi, come in." Aedion flushed, he had just gotten out of bed, by the looks of it. By the amount of alcohol I assume we both had last night, I wasn't surprised. I walked into his room, his room mate Ren didn't seem to be around.

"Ren's gone to see his grandad." Aedion said when he saw me looking around.

"Good. Now about last night."

"Oh. Last night." He didn't meet my eyes and seemed to be embarrassed.

"Last night was a mistake. We never should have kissed. We are not in a relationship, nor will we ever be. Last night was a one off, and it will never happen again. Ever. Do you understand?" I wasn't ready for a relationship. I couldn't be in a relationship. What would he do if he found out about Clarisse? I know Aelin would never tell him, but until I somehow pay off my debts, I can't get involved with anyone.

"Oh- erm yeah. Yeah. I didn't expect anything else." Hurt flashed in his eyes. Everything was a big mistake. And with what I had to do later, I had to get him out of my head.

"Then I'll see you around." I walked out of his room, and Aelin was no where to be seen. I decided against waiting for her and walked back to our room - I needed to start getting ready for the hell I would suffer that night. Like any other night I have to do Clarisse's dirty work.

Aelin POV
Lysandra was walking into Aedion's room before Rowan even bothered to answer the door. Eventually the door swung open, revealing a shirtless Rowan.

"Lorcan I swear to God- oh. You."

"Yes. Me."

"What do you want?" He hissed.

"First of all, for you to put a shirt on." The tattoos that flowed all over the left side of his face extended all over the left side of his chest and his arm, and I didn't understand a word of it. He grunted and turned around, showing me the muscles in his back. He definitely worked out.

"Not going to invite me in?" I asked. He didn't respond. What is it with this school and brooding teenage guys?

"What do you want." He demanded again after putting a shirt on.

"I want you to tell me why the hell you let me get a tattoo last night when I was obviously drunk. And what it says."

"I thought it's be funny. It was. And I didn't do it, I have no idea what it says. But I heard a name."

"A name? What name?" Hundreds is possibilities flashed through my head - someone I'd killed, my parents, it could have been anyone.

"Why should I tell you?" He smirked.

"Because it is permanently inked onto my back?!"

"Fine. Sam Cortland. That's all I heard." Sam. Sam. I got Sam tattooed onto my back - Sam. And something else. I walked off  without saying anything else to Rowan, tears lining my eyes. I was so glad that I got Sam onto my back and not something stupid - even if I was drunk, it's good way to remember him.
