[ daisuke x female reader (slight angst/heartbreak)
continuation of L.O.V.E. ]The rays of the sun peered through the wooden blinds inside of the personal office of the wealthy detective. His eyes stood shut for several minutes as he slept against his desk while clutching onto a small teddy bear he was fortunate to find in his room after the departure of his wife. It had been almost six months since she had left him in the dust. Alone. All alone in the Kambe household. He missed her terribly— completely regretting his actions that night.
"Knock, knock," a familiar voice chirped into the room. A pair of heels clicked against his hardwood floor and neared Daisuke as he refused to move from his current position. The detective took the pair of sunglasses he had been using for the past months to hide the sadness and guilt eating him alive, and removed them from his face. The man rubbed his eyes before catching the sight of his sister, Suzue, standing in front of him with a bag in hand. "I brought food."
"Thank you," he barely whispered out, setting the teddy bear near the picture frame of both him and y/n on a trip in France at the time. His eyes avoided making contact with the eyes of his sister as he began to take the platters from the bag. Coincidentally, he pulled out a dish that reminded him of y/n on their first date. The bemused look on her face when she took a bite of the pasta dish that day was an unforgettable expression that he would never forget. "This was her favorite..."
"Huh?"
"Nevermind," he responded, pulling the silver utensils out from the bag. Carefully, Daisuke stored away the pile of documents into a manila file folder, setting it aside on one end of his desk. He opened the lid off the platter and ultimately slouched in the chair as he reached out for food and stuffed it into his mouth. Quietly, he swallowed, and began to eat more of the pasta dish. However, Suzue watched him like a hawk to ensure that he was eating properly. Ever since her best friend left the two of them, she noted the way he looked thinner than usual. He probably lost around five to ten pounds from the looks of it, Suzue thought.
"How is work? Any new cases?" the woman cheerfully lit up, trying to uplift the mood of the room. She knew and understood that he enjoyed being a detective and fighting off crime under a cost, but the more she thought of it— he hadn't really brought it up lately. The departure of y/n from their lives had heavily affected him in every aspect of his life. He couldn't even do anything without being reminded of her.
"Not really," he spoke, swirling his fork around with the pasta.
"Well, I've heard from Haru that you've—"
"Suzue, could we please not talk about work while I'm eating? I'm starting to lose my appetite again," the detective sadly admitted. The fork on his right hand dropped onto the plate and he slouched back further into his chair while crossing his arms directly in front of his chest. Daisuke took a deep breath silently on his own before meeting eye-to-eye with the worried expression on Suzue.
She shook her head. "I was just wondering, that's all."
Standing up, Daisuke nodded. He walked in back and forth motions concentrated in deep thought as he attempted to retrace y/n mentally in his head. Even with all of the wealth he had in his hand, none of it led him to the path to find y/n. She was indeed a smart woman—she made sure not to leave any evidence behind—the only trace of her left was the stuff he found in their bedroom. Believe it or not, he found a lot of things that revealed her true emotions, and idiotically, he wished he could turn back the time and fix it all up with a snap of a finger.
Anxiously, Suzue crossed her legs and smoothened out the peach-colored skirt that she wore. "Daisuke..."
The wealthy man sat on the ledge of the window while staring off into the green bushes outside of his house. He watched as birds flew and stood on top of the bird bath— splashing in enjoyment. Probably, he thought. His eyes then averted back to his sister as his clean composure fell once more. His disheveled hair covered the upper half of his eyes while tears began to well at the corners. He was never good at expressing himself, but at this point in time— it was the only way to let the spiraling emotions out of his system. "I miss her..." he choked out, putting up a serious face on the exterior as he broke down on the inside.
