Chapter 2

“Hey There Lonely Girl” Eddie Holman

Sara hops into the back of Landon’s car and I sit in the passenger seat. A minute or two later Landon gets into the drivers seat and drives Sara to school.

“Bye Sara!” I say as she jumps out of the car.

“Bye, thanks for the ride Landon,” she replies

“No problem kiddo!” Landon says back.

We drive away from Sara’s Jr. High School. Then Landon dropped me off at my work, on his way to his. I’m a journalist and I work in a boring office, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Landon stops in front of my office and then I say

“Thanks Landon, see you at home!” I run into my office after looking at my watch, noticing I’m gonna be late for a meeting with my boss. I run up the steps, skipping every other step.

I make it to the meeting just in time. My boss walks into the room and stares at me. I give her a forced smile.

“Maddy!” she practically yells and I kind of jump “You are going to do the special assignment I have planned! That was all everyone except Maddy go back to work,” I’m nervous yet excited. She sat in front of me and leaned in with her elbows on the table and her chin sitting in her palms.

“So… What’s my assignment?” I ask after a long, awkward silence.

“You’re going to London!” she practically yelled. She told me how I’m going to go to London to write a story of the English culture and the beauty of London. I’m extremely excited! I get to spend a month in London, writing about it! The best part is that I get payed to do it too!

I tell my family about the whole thing during diner. Mom is paranoid, Dad is kind of over protective, Sara is totally jealous and my brother just kind of fake a smile. I don’t know what they are hiding behind those smiles, but it can’t be good.

My Dad is the first to say something “Maddy, when are you leaving?”

“In two days,” I reply. Everyone just stares at me like I’m making a life changing decision.

TWO DAYS LATER

I’m all packed and about to get into my car to drive to the airport. I say goodbye to everyone and my Mom starts to cry. I tell her I’ll be back before she knows it, then walk out the door.

I make it to the airport just in time. I get on the plane after getting my bags checked and all the other junk. I start to relax in the plain seat and I put in my earbuds. Before I knew it, I was asleep. I woke up to a jolt.

We must be landing I think. I grab my bags and get out of the airport as fast as I can. After about an hour cab ride I make it to my hotel.

Home, for the next month I think to myself. I unpack my stuff and take out my laptop. I check my email and see a new email from my Mom. I open it

Dear Maddy,

How was your flight? Miss you a bunch! Don’t forget to call once you get to the hotel. I’ll be waiting by my phone. Love you with all my heart. See you soon!

Love Mom

I laugh at this message. She treats me like a baby sometimes. I decide to call her before she has a heart attack.

“Hey Mom,” I say into my phone.

“Hi Maddy! How’s it been? How was your flight? Did you get enough sleep?” My Mom rambles question for about another five minutes. I answer them when she takes a breath.

After another five-ten minutes, I said goodbye to my Mom and hung up. I realized that for the next month I was pretty much by myself.
