Chapter 18

“I See You” Luke Bryan

Thomas’ Pov

I left right away. Maddy just broke up with me. I don’t know if she really meant it, but I’m gone, so it’s at least temporary.

I don’t want to go home. All of Maddy’s stuff is there. I can’t stay here, in Wisconsin, she’s too close. I decide to call on of my best friends, from the states.

“Hey, Dyl,” I say into the phone.

“Hey, Tommy! What’s up?” Dylan O’brien responds.

“A lot. Not too good either. Pretty much the worst day of my life,” I tell Dylan, truthfully.

“What happened?” he asks. I hear the curiosity in his voice.

“You remember my fiancée, Maddy?” I begin.

“Yeah, you sent me a pic of you 2,” he tells me. I remember that picture. Maddy and I had gone to Big Ben and took so many pictures. I sent one to everyone on my contacts list.

“Well, umm… Her brother died a couple days ago and well she broke off the engagement. And possibly our whole relationship,” I tell Dylan, then continue, adding all the details of the days we spent together ever since she moved back to London, with me. He keeps quiet as I rant, except for occasional questions or comments.

“So, I was wondering if I could stay at your place for a while. I need a friend to… you know… help me through this,” I admit.

“Of course! Where are you?” he asks.

“Umm…” I look out of the plane window, “Right outside of an airport in Los Angeles. I’ll be at your house in about 2 hours,” I say into the phone.

“Okay! See you soon,” he says and hangs up the phone.

I get a cab and have it drop me off at Dylan’s house. I was only here once, but I remembered his address. I knock on the door of his flat. He yells something, but I can’t understand what he’s saying so I just wait outside. I hear footsteps coming towards the door. Dylan opens the door and welcomes me in. I take off my jacket and begin to lay it on his couch when he interrupts me.

“Hey, Tommy, put that back on!” he yells.

“Why?” I ask. It’s not cold in here.

“We’re going out. I’m gonna get your mind off Maddy for a while,” he tells me. I want to tell him I don't want to think about anything, but Maddy for the rest of my life. I decide not to considering he’s letting me stay at his house. The least I can do is go along with his plan. He pulls his phone out of his back pocket and waves it at me.

“I called all ‘the boys’. They are all on there way,” he tells me. I’m confused. Who are ‘the boys’. I give him a weird look and he continues explaining.

“I called Ki, Will, Dexter, Chris, Jacob, and Alex. They are all on their way here,” I give him a ‘what were you thinking’ look, then laugh. Maybe this will help. Maybe.

After a couple hours everyone is sitting in the livingroom of Dylan’s flat. I look around the room. 7 other guys, some of my best friends, all look at me with big smiles and anxious faces. I stand up and get ready to say a speech. I clear my throat.

“Let’s get our drink on boys!” I yell. They all cheer and we head out to the limo Dylan rented. I feel stupid doing this, but maybe it will help.

We walk into a bar and I instantly regret it. I don’t want to do anything stupid that will make Maddy hate me anymore than she already does. I watch all the boys get anywhere from somewhat drunk to over the top drunk. I don’t even pick up a drink. I can’t. I miss Maddy too much to do something that stupid. So instead I go into the bathroom and call her. It goes straight to voicemail. I leave a message.

“Love? I… uh miss you lots. I want to see you soon. I can’t live knowing you hate me. Just think about it,” I tell her, or her voicemail “I love you and I always will,” I hang up and lean against the wall. I close my eyes and slide my back down the wall.

I love her and I always will. I repeat in my head at least a million and one times.
