Chapter 8
“Mama’s Song” Carrie Underwood
Thomas drives the motorcycle a little slower than usually. I can tell because he keeps checking the speed we are at and if he thinks it’s too fast, he slows dramatically. We finally make it to my hotel. I swing my leg over the side of the bike and so does Thomas. He puts the kickstand down and walks me to my room. We get to my door and I kiss him on the cheek.
“I had a lot of fun, Thomas,” I tell him and give him a big hug, which he returns.
“Me too! I’ll text you later,” he tells me letting go of me and placing a kiss on my forehead. I blush.
“Goodbye,” I tell him as I close my door. He waves and walk down the hall to the elevator.
I walk over to my bed and fall face first on it. I shriek into the bed, trying not to disturb my cranky neighbor.
I open my laptop and start working on my article. That’s when I realize I only have 3 weeks left in London. What’s going to happen to me and Thomas. Maybe I could stay here longer with him or he could come to America with me. I sigh. I can’t just drop everything and move to London, can I? What about Sara, Landon, and Luke? What would Mom and Dad do? What would they say? They would probably hate me moving to London to be with a guy who I just met. But I really want to! I don’t want to ever be away from Thomas!
I spend most of the rest of the day thinking about what to do about this whole thing. I stare at my laptop screen. I have writers block, since I can’t even think of anything, but Thomas. Then I see that I have an email from my Mom.
Hey Maddy,
I miss you! How have you been? How’s your articles going? I’m so excited to read them! What have you been doing? Are you exploring?
She goes on for about 4 paragraphs asking questions and telling me what they have been doing. She tells me Sara won 3 out of 4 of her volleyball games. She says that Landon started dating a new girl named Lana. And how Luke finally got a new job as a waiter.
After reading it I see how much my Mom misses me. How could I leave my whole family? I would miss them too much.
Should I reply to my Mom? What should I say?
Hey Mom,
I miss you too! I’ve been really great. I actually made a new friend. Thomas Brodie Sangster! Sounds like you guys are having lots of fun. Don’t have too much fun without me, though. Love you!
Love Maddy
I send the email to my Mom and I get and instant reply.
Hey Maddy,
THOMAS BRODIE SANGSTER! The boy from the Maze Runner. The one you are like in love with! Oh my gosh! That’s awesome!
Love Mom
I laugh. I remember telling my Mom how much I loved him as Newt. That’s when I hear my phone buzz. I dive for it on the other side of the bed, hoping it’s Thomas. I grab it and see it’s my Mom calling me. I answer the call.
“Hey Mom!” I say.
“Thomas Brodie Sangster! You met him?” My Mom says.
“Yeah, Mom, I met him,” I laugh.
“Oh my gosh! Tell me everything!” she says. I laugh again. I tell her mostly everything. I leave out the parts about him asking me to be his girlfriend and falling asleep with him in the park. But everything else I tell her. Then I decide to take a chance.
“Hey, Mom, what do you think about me staying here longer?” I ask, just so I know what she has to say about it.
“WHAT?! Why would you stay longer? Did your boss extend your assignment?” My Mom blabs questions about what I said.
“Maddy! Why did you ask?” My Mom said a little more calmly.
“Umm… I don’t know. I guess I just really like it here and you know I’m getting older. Maybe it’s time for me to move out of the house,” I tell my Mom.
“Maddy, what’s going on? Are you moving out? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Mom starts questioning again.
“Mom, I don’t know yet! It’s just an idea! Okay,” I reassure her.
“Maddy, why do you, all of a sudden, want to move to London?” she says very calmly for how mad she was before.
“Umm… I don’t know,” I do know. It’s Thomas! I just don’t want to tell my Mom about me and Thomas yet. I don’t know what she would say.
“Mom, I have to go. I have to work on my assignment. Bye love you,” I say and move the phone from my ear to hang up. I hear my Mom say
“Wait! Love you!” before I hang up.
I don’t know what to do. So I decide to take a nap.
