Chapter 22

“I Don’t Dance” Lee Brice

I put my hand on Thomas’. Then Thomas put his other hand on my hip as I put my other hand on his shoulder. I pulls me close to him, so there is only an inch or 2 between our bodies. I feel his warm breath on my face as I lean in to kiss him. I feel so stiff. I decide to relax and dance like no one is watching. I focus on Thomas and wrap my arms around his neck. He wraps his muscular arms around my torso. He pulls me even closer so that the space that was there, is now gone and replaced by our bodies. I lay my head oh his shoulder.

“Love, did I tell you that you look beautiful today?” he whispers in my ears.

“Not yet,” I whisper

“Well you are, always,” he tells me.

“Thank you, Tommy. You ain’t looking too bad either,” I tell him. We both start laughing quietly. Thomas gently kisses the top of my head then grabs my left hand, twirling me in a full 360 circle. I almost fall and I would have if Thomas didn’t catch me. Then we go back to the position we were in before the spin.

“You could have told me you were going to spin me,” I tell Thomas. I smile into his shoulder.

“Now what’s the fun in that?” he asks with a chuckle. I laugh too. When I’m with Thomas all my nerves, stress, anxious, and bad feelings disappear. That must be what love feels like. What else could this feeling be.

“I love you, Thomas,” I tell him, looking him in the eyes. Thomas kisses my forehead and pulls me closer into his muscular chest.

“I love you more,” he whispers.

“Doubt it,” I tell him. We both are laughing again. Neither of us noticed, but our song has ended and we are still dancing. Now every couple is dancing with us on the dance floor to another slow song. All the kids are either dancing in between their parents or with a single person. I look around the room. I’m surrounded by the people I love most and we are all having the time of our lives. I laugh and so does Thomas. I look around some more. I see Sara dancing with one of Thomas’ younger cousins. Sara and the boy look about the same age. That can’t end well. I think to myself, pointing it out to Thomas. He laughs.

“That little smooth talker,” he laughs in my ear. I laugh along with him. I keep looking. I see Cassie with her boyfriend, another one of my friends, Easton. I see Kimberley dancing with Dylan. I smile when I see my parents and Thomas’ parents dancing. I see Ava dancing with her boyfriend, the one I met the night I went to their house. I see my aunts and uncles dancing. I see my cousins dancing. I see some of my cousins even dancing with some of the Maze Runner cast that came, like Will, Ki, Chris, and Alex. Then I see Sean dancing with Kaya. I laugh and so does Thomas, when he sees them. This is the wedding I have always pictured myself having. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
