The bell rang for the end of the day.
"Remember, read pages one-thirty seven to one- fifty," Mr. Chronic hollard as the students left the room. "Hailey, please stay." I stopped at the door, worried that I was in trouble. I stood in front of the desk, clutching my books. "Yes Mr. Chronic?"
"I need to talk to you about your grades in Social. What's happening? You had perfect grades, and now . . . they are going down hill, like the bunny going down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland."
I shrugged it off.
"Well, I'm really concerned. Do you want to talk about it?"
"No. I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I'm sure."
"Okay, have a nice day."
I walked out of there not feeling any guilt for not answering or just being rude. Unlocking my locker, I shoved my books and the binder in, yanking my bag out. The halls cleared soon enough. Locking my locker furiously, I storm out of the school as my friend Melody waits for me.
"Hey girl, why do you look so down?"
"I've got called out for my grades going downhill by Mr. Chronic"
"Well that sucks."
"It does, big time." Walking down the back, turning right to the parking lot of the Comp, without paying attention, a couple of guys ran into us, knocking all of us over.
"Hey, watch where you're going!" Melody yelled.
Opening my eyes, a boy, no older than me, lifted his head, locking eyes. I have no idea who he is, but he's someone at this school.
"I'm sorry." he apologized.
Usually I would hollar at the people to move or get out of my way. "It's fine." I say in a tone that one, I don't care, and two I don't want to deal with him. I pushed him off of me and stood up. "Who are you? We've never seen you in school." Melody rudely asked.
"We do go to this school. We always see you girls around, and man you two are hot," one of them said. That kid has brunette hair, baggy jeans and a long green t-shirt. "The name's Hudson."
"That's great Hudson. Just watch where you're going next time." Melody snarled. "Okay, don't worry sweetheart, we will stay out of your way." Hudson said sweetly. "Don't call me sweetheart," Melody hissed.
The other guy and I stayed quiet for most of the conversation. The Hudson kid kept debunking Melody as it wasn't a problem.
"Where are you two ladies off to?" he asked finally.
"None of your business. Let's go, Hailey."
I walked with her to her car. Settling in the passenger seat, I texted my parents that I will be with my friend tonight. For it being a Thursday, I always go out with her or with a gang to do fun things, and never get back unil nine thirty to ten.
"Can't believe that guy. So pathetic."
"I know. They need to watch where they're going." I say. They do. Riding down the main street, we turn into her neighborhood, then turning down her street. Pulling into her driveway, she killed the engine. We entered her house. "Okay, plan for tonight. Jane is having a mini party for just us as we will be playing games."
"Seriously, games?"
"Not just any games, paranormal games."
She smiled pouring us each a glass of coke. "Paranormal games? That suns fun. Are we playing Charlie, Charlie? Or the Ouija board?"
"I doubt anything like that. But yeah, paranormal games."
I took a sip of coke. "What time are we leaving?"
"Around five or so. We'll have dinner here as she will just have snacks. Do you want to order pizza?"
"Sure."
I ordered a large cheese pizza as Melody is a vegetarian. She offered to pay half as we got the pop out and a bottle of wine ready to go. Twenty minutes later, the pizza came and we paid half. Getting the plates we took two pieces each and sat on the couch to watch a horror movie. Chilling on the white leather couch watching a horror movie.
Later on, it was time to go. I grabbed the wine and set it in the brown paper bag. Drinking my last sip of coke, we get ready to leave.
As we enter the fall moist air the year of 2042, the leaves fell from their tree homes, I set the bottle of wine in the back of the jacket that we brought. As the sun setted in the distance, Melody drove all the way out into the countryside.
Driving onto the driveway, parked, then got out. Knocking on the door, Jane opened the door and invited us in. setting the wine on the table, Jane talked to us before getting right into the paranormal games.
"So, tomorrow night, there is a big party going on at Kristy's. We are going to school. Then there will be a party at my place on Halloween to celebrate."
"Love to be there." I say. "I won't miss it for anything. I'll be there."
Melody agreed that we should come together.
"Okay, the time to be there is eight. Leave at seven and don't be late."
Gathering around in the living room with chips and cups of wine, the doorbell rang. Jane got up to answer the door. In the distance, we could hear voices, then the door closed. Walking in came Jane and Kristy and Justin. "We come to join." Justin replied, sitting down beside us.
"So help yourself to wine and chips. So we are going to play a paranormal game. Any suggestions?" Jane asked.
We thought about it for a while.
"What about . . . light as a feather?" Jane asked.
"Sure, nothing else to do." I say.
"Then we can play the Ouija Board afterwards," Justin suggested.
"Sure but who's going first?" Melody said.
"I will."
Justin hopped in the middle laying down. We each place two fingers around him. Then we chanted "light as a feather, stiff as a board."
Chanting, he started to levitate in the air. Soon enough, we laid him back down. We each took turns being levitated in the air.
