As the guests spilled into the home, everyone started talking and having a great time. Well soon that time will get interrupted by a demon who wants to feast on their souls. The four of us stayed in the kitchen talking as people helped themselves to drinks.
This is my cue to get everyone's attention and tell them what's going on. I take a pan and a wooden spoon and banged it until everyone looked at me like I'm crazy.
"Hey everyone, I have to tell you something that you're not gonna like. There is a demon going around the city taking people and fishing their soul. This is going to come and kill you if you don't go home right and lock your doors!" with a serious expression and a stern tone I actually thought they'd listen to me.
Instead, they burst out laughing. I could hear someone yell out, "Yo gorgeous, thanks for spoiling the prank for us!"
"Shut up, Melvin! I'm not spoiling anything!"
"Well it seems like you are!"
More laughter erupted in the house. Giving up, it was time for step two, once people realize that this ain't no joke, Justin and Jane has to get them to safety. Everyone went back to chatting and forgot all about it.
Mason huddled us together wrapping his arms around mine and Jane's shoulder. "This is step two right now. Once this spirit comes in and start taking souls, gather everyone around where they won't get dragged underneath. Even get them outside and away from this house until we get some backup."
"Who's the backup?" Jane asked.
"When I tell you, promise me that you won't freak out or look at me at a different way, but the backup is Charlie from the game, Charlie, Charlie. Satan and a gang full of demons just to capture this one. These guys won't hurt you, don't insult them as they are from hell and will drag you down too, but don't worry, though. As long as you will be nice to them, then you'll be okay. This is the only time they will be nice and do something for the living as this spirit is breaking a law."
"There's a law in Hell?" Jane asked.
"When someone plays a game and it includes someone that if they may die, then that's okay. When a spirit goes on a killing spree with no summonation or a reason to why, then that's a law broken and he will be sent to prison where the bars are cursed, and tried to escape, he will burn."
"They have prisons in hell?" Justin asked.
"Yes for demons like this one will go to."
We let go and we play the waiting game. To keep ourselves occupied, we talk and try to enjoy ourselves until the time comes. It's been an hour or so since the party started as nothing happened yet. Jane and Justin asked Mason all of these questions. Even I asked questions about his life that I never asked before.
It was fun that I completely forgot all about the demon. It was around eleven when the lights flickered out. There is no thunder storm. Then it hit me right in the face.
The spirit is here.
Everyone started screaming their lungs out, while some are actually freaked out by this, which is good because this "prank" will give them a hint to go.
The lights came back to life and everyone is silent. You could hear a pin drop it was that quiet. A moment later screams were to be heard when I saw someone get dragged into a room, then the door shut automatically. People were scared from the "prank" but not scared enough to move. Someone opened the door and called out to them. It was silence.
The person came outside after a few minutes and said, "she's gone. She's completely gone like not in the room anywhere gone."
Everyone looked our way, then panick rose in the home. Jane and Justin went to round everyone up and bring them to a safe place in the home. I hunt down Mason seeing him mouthing, "go hide."
I went into the basement where everyone is curled into one another. Justin and Jane walk over after giving everyone a bottle water. "Did Mason go?" Justin asked.
I nodded. Hopefully this will be all over. I gathered everyone's names on a sheet of paper, making the attendance. Then we did a role call to make sure I had everyone. Jane blocked the basement door with something so we could be safe. Justin and a couple of other kids blocked the windows. We are all huddled together keeping warm from the coldness. If felt like forever until someone knocked on the door. "It's Mason."
Justin moved the big box that blocked the door from opening. Mason entered the quiet room. "What's going on?" I ask.
"For one thing, that spirit is roaming free and we lost it. We have no idea where it has gone, but we do know is it's a shapeshifting demon. Which means it can form into anyone."
"So what you're saying is don't trust anyone?" Justin asked crossing his arms over his chest. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. We know that the demon is still in this house. We are on guard."
"What are you going to do when you catch him?" I ask.
"My father says the exact way we brought him in this world."
"The picture game, but we lost three of our group members. So it won't work."
"That's the problem. We don't know how we are going to do this, but we are."
Once again, the lights turned off and screams were to be heard. The lights flickered back on for what felt like an eternity. I quickly did the role call but once I mentioned Callie, there was no answer. Another person has been taken by the spirit. Cries overlapped the room and we did our best to calm everyone down. Finishing off the attendance we mourned over a missing teen girl, who had lots to live for.
"I've got to get back out there, but a way to know that it's me is think of a password. Paranormal."
Within that, he left.
