Walking to school the next morning, I listen to my music as it plays while admiring the surroundings. As the vehicles drove past me. I stopped at a crosswalk scanned both ways before running across the street to the sidewalk. Walking along the side lines, I saw Mason sitting in the shade on his phone.
He didn't see me so I went inside to get my books ready. Setting my bag aside undoing my lock. Preparing for math I get my books and stuff my bag into the locker. Setting the books aside I play on my phone.
Soon, everyone started coming in getting prepared for the day. The bell rang as the crowd moved two ways as I got dragged along with one of the paths, or I will be pushed along. Walking into class as I wasn't the last one.
Sighing, I sat at my desk waiting for Kristy.
Five minutes after the bell, Kristy hadn't shown.
During lunch, I sat with Jane and Justin as Kristy hadn't shown all morning. Maybe just sick. I texted her to see how she's feeling. Tucking my phone inside my sweater pocket telling them both that Kristy hasn't been here all morning.
"Has she told any of you of her absence?" I asked. They both shook their heads.
"Probably sick." Justin suggested taking a bite of his salad. Jane showed fear but not a lot. "Are you okay, Jane?" I ask.
"Yeah, but I'm kind of worried about Kristy. It's not like her to not respond, or at least she would tell us."
"Kristy's probably sick to the point where she can't move." I assured her. Butterflies formed in my stomach. It wasn't like Kristy to not tell us that she's abandoning us today. Munching on our lunch the bell rang then we got all packed up and ready for our next class. Walking in the room I sat in my seat with Hudson beside me.
I tried not to look at him as I didn't want attention. But he caught me.
"Hey sweetie." he said to me. Ignored him.
Hearing his chair screech towards me, I couldn't help but look. "What do you want, Hudson?" I snarled.
"Come down, sweetheart."
"Don't call me that and I won't kill you."
"Okay . . . chill. Anyways, I wanted to talk to you about Saturday."
Hesitating, I finally let him in. "Look, no matter what you guys say, I will join your group. Your group is fun to be around especially what happened on Saturday. What I wanted to say to you is that Kristy said to me some words when we were alone. 'Beware of Satan and all his friends, if you mess up, you'll be dead.' What does it mean?"
Shrugged my shoulders a bit stunned. Kristy will never say that, or so I think. "I don't know, bud. You're going to have to ask her yourself. Speaking of, have you heard from her? She hasn't been here all day and usually she would tell us."
"No."
"Alright class, take out your books."
At the end of the day, I packed my things and left school alone. On the way I called Kristy. It rang non stop and her voice mail came on. After the ring I sent her a message hoping she would get it. Stopping to plug in my earphones to listen to music.
Joggers passed by with strollers or dogs as cars zoomed passed. The wind hurled around me swaying my hair. Pulling my hood over my hair once I pushed the button on the lights. My music blasted in my ears. When the little man said I could cross, I did look both ways.
I stopped by Timmy's to get a large Ice Cap and a glazed donut on the way home. Drinking on as I went through the garage. Unpacking my school stuff, I quickly did my homework. I checked my phone to see if Kristy responded.
