Babysitting

A/N:
Kinda an au but not really basically just Ianto's family knows all about his torchwood job but they don't really know about his relationship with a man.
————————————————————————"I know I'm sorry ianto.... it's just for a night" Rhiannon's voice projected through the phone "me and Johnny have to go it was all so sudden I'm so sorry to let you know at such short notice but we have to be there for her". Rhiannon's childhood friends mother had died and while she had never been particularly close with the woman she and Johnny felt they should be there for the funeral. However, the funeral was no place for children and it was particularly far away so they would be staying the night at a hotel, this meant that she needed someone to look after mica and David. Ianto's sighed running a hand down his face "rhi I'm at the hub most nights" he protested weakly knowing it would get him no where, "can't you have them there, they know what you do they'll be good as gold I promise" his sister pleaded wearing down what last protests he had. "Alright" he concluded "but don't make a habit of it I can pick them up straight from school if you like and we can just pop round and get their overnight things" he offered generously. Rhiannon audibly lit up "could you?" She exclaimed "I do need to find something black .... can you believe I don't own one black dress I can hardly turn up to a funeral looking like I'm going to a bleeding wedding can I" she babbled. Ianto smiled despite his mild annoyance "I've got a key ... it's half one now so call the school and tell them I'll be picking them up at three will you?" He said as he attempted to locate jack. Rhi muttered her thanks again as she agreed to call the school and hung up the phone.

That's how ianto found himself, one and a half hours later stood in a school playground awaiting his niece and nephew. "UNCLE IANTO" he heard as a mica shaped tornado rushed towards him. "Heyyy mica" he exclaimed scooping her up and swinging her around "where's David?" He asked as he set the giggling girl down. "He comes out of that door .... they get the cool outside classroom" she said with a jealous pout as she watched her brother appear out of the door she had mentioned.

Ianto played the good uncle and listened to the never ending chatter of the two children's drastically different school days, he soon learned that at break time mica had made daisy chains on the field in the sun with her friends and David had played football and rolled down the hill, which explained a fair bit about the blades of grass in his hair and collar. Before the kids knew it they had gone home packed an overnight bag and were gawking at the hidden door to the hub. "Right you two will be sleeping here so we'll just put your bags here for now" ianto explained placing the bags on the large double sofa bed in the corner of the hub that he had already set up with clean sheets. He began to turn around "we don't have much food here so I thought we could go out for dinner? McDonald's sound..... good?" He stared at the spot mica and David had been standing in moments before "great" he muttered wondering how on Earth two children could get so far so fast. "IANTO!!" Came Owens bellowing voice as he entered the room holding a giggling mica at arms length "I found a kid". Ianto spun around for the third time that day "thanks I...." he took in the scene before him "Owen please don't hold my niece like a dangerous alien artefact" he stayed calmly. "Fair enough" the medic shrugged placing mica back on the ground. Ianto held out a hand to mica "come on shall we find your brother and go get McDonald's?" Mica nodded her head excitedly and held onto Ianto's hand dragging him along "he went up this way". Ianto's heart sunk in worry as she dragged him towards jacks office he didn't know how the captain was with children. He wasn't worried about jack disliking children, just teaching them things he'd rather they stay oblivious too. He needn't have worried they found David sat on the floor with jack as jack told him a story about a mad man with a box who travelled through time and space saving planets. Ianto recognised these stories as stories about the doctor, but they were different these stories seemed to be customised and included David himself. "We're going to McDonald's" mica announced. David immediately jumped up "can jack come!" He exclaimed showing new found adoration for the captain. Ianto glanced at jack "I don't see why not" he shrugged.
