"He loves me, loves me not, he loves me, he loves me not" ianto muttered, on his way to work and picking at a daisy while he walked along the bay. "Loves me, loves me not" he finished with an exasperated sigh tossing the daisy, which now had no petals, to the ground. It was stupid, he told himself, he shouldn't be feeling like a lovesick teenager when he was going to work and he certainly shouldn't be acting like a teenage girl and using high school rituals to figure out his boss' mixed signals. Earlier he had walked under cherry blossom trees. He normally had no problem with these particular tress, but he'd seen a couple on a breakfast picnic under one on the other side of the road and he couldn't help but wish that one day it could be him and jack, though realistically he knew it would never happen.

He got into work long before everyone else, a habit he picked up from when Lisa was alive. She had only died a few days ago but, ianto didn't want to admit, it felt like ages ago. The Welshman knew that Lisa stopped being Lisa when she was converted, perhaps that's what made the wound heal so easily. "Ianto...." was the first thing he heard when he stepped out of the lift. He turned to look at jack "yes sir?" He replied not too sure if it was a question or a statement. Jack took a step towards him and reached out a hand "you've got cherry blossoms in your hair" he said in a low voice brushing the petals out of Ianto's hair, smiling. Ianto didn't think he would ever want to kiss someone so badly in his life. "Thank you sir... well shall I make some coffee" ianto said briskly instead after a moment of silence, maintaining his cool until he managed to catch his foot in the grating of the floor. He stumbled, and jack immediately grabbed his arm to prevent him from falling "careful" he warned with a grin.

Ianto made his way to the kitchen and, despite their usual morning tradition, jack followed him instead of sloping off to his office. Ianto frowned it wasn't like jack to watch him make the coffee but ianto thought that maybe jack was just bored. That morning jack seemed to be avoiding the cells like the plague and ianto finally decided to question him on it. Jack looked at him for a second before replying "I didn't like to ask and I was going to clean it up myself but you see it's a little hard to do that and I know it's not your job but" he babbled stopping when ianto laid a hand on his arm "jack what happened" he questioned again in a softer voice already having an idea of the immortals answer. "I was feeding the weevil and well she got a little aggressive and...." he trailed off but he didn't need to say anymore ianto knew that jack had died yet another painful death and that was why he had been so clingy: he'd woken up alone. "I'll clean up the blood" Ianto assured him earning him a small shy smile from the captain.

As he cleared the blood, he couldn't help but feel a little dejected. Having jack so close to him earlier had truly made his heart summersault in his chest. He hated how the charming captain made him feel sometimes. As soon as all the traces of blood had been eliminated he leaned against a wall. "You are naughty" he scolded the weevil who was staring curiously at him. He finally disposed of his cleaning materials and went to find jack. The captain wasn't hard to find, he was sat in his office chair staring off into the distance. Ianto's heart softened and he made his way across the room to put his hand on the captain's shoulder "you ok?" He asked in a low voice. Jack nodded but ianto knew he wasn't telling the truth he pulled the man into a hug, he felt jack shake against him slightly as tears soaked into his shirt. "It's okay" he soother rubbing comforting circles on the immortals back. "I'm sorry" jack mumbled still clinging to Ianto. "You've got no need to be sorry jack" ianto assured him. "God, I love you" came the american's voice, muffled against Ianto's chest. Ianto's heart began to thump in his chest "what?" He questioned, sure that he hadn't heard jack correctly. Jack stiffened and looked up at him "I-I'm Sorry i didnt mean to .... I know that you only flirted before to save Lisa and..." ianto cut the captain off by crashing their lips together. Ianto could taste the salt from jacks previous tears and the captains lips were so much smoother than he had anticipated. As they pulled away ianto muttered four words, "I love you too", and it was at that moment he realised he meant them. That morning ianto learned two things. One, that you can indeed fall in love without being in a relationship and two, that daisies lie.
