One last party before school started, it was supposed to be at Nora’s but they decided to throw it outside, something about it being the last hours of freedom and enjoying them out in the air and stuff, it was all very dramatic really. But understandable I guess, we all felt a little like that. Well, not so much, not me, because going to school meant being able to see Cris without time limit and that was all the freedom I longed for.

We all left from Eva’s house, with a couple of drinks already to be honest, we walked about 15 minutes until we met the guys at a small park. There was music and drinks and, after a while, the all decided to play with the bottle, which we did until it was Viri’s and Hugo’s turn to kiss, the kiss that ended the game because no one was able to separate them.

After about one hour, Cris and I separated from the group to sit in a swing set and we started swinging while we held hands, somehow we ended up in a competition of who could swing the highest, Cris’ laughter filled up every inch of the space there and I got drunk on it. Eventually, she dared me to jump while the swing was still high up, she jumped first just to prove she was able to and, while messy, her landing was a billion times better than mine; I still jumped just to land on top of her. We stayed there laying in the grass laughing for a while, before going back to the party.

“Hey, guys! Come on, one last toast before school starts.”

We all raised our cups and toasted for the end of summer vacation. Then, when it was all over, I walked Cris home and felt nostalgic all of the sudden.

“I hate knowing that I won’t be sleeping next to you as much anymore.”

“I know.”

“Thank you, though. For the best birthday ever and for the best summer break ever. I can’t wait for it to be Monday so I can see you again.”

I kissed her in her doorway, and she asked me to let her know when I got home.

“Joana! I hate to see you leave…”

I turned around to see her and she winks at me.

“But I love to watch you as you do.”

I laughed and blew her a kiss before leaving her building and going home.
