Padmé Amidala's belly grew more and more by the rotations. Nearly twenty weeks by then.
Her elation nearly tripled every time she felt the tender kicks of her baby, or when it would stir in the middle of the night and startle Padmé.
Anakin's excitement flourished, too. Each day he that he managed to sneak away to his wife's apartment, he uplifted her and spun her around, his crystallized, determined blue eyes locking lovingly with her's.
"How much longer?" he would ask anytime he had a chance for a conversation.
And Padmé would always reply with how many standard weeks she had left. Anakin would groan with anticipation—he wanted the baby the be there now—and joyfully tell his wife how great of a mother she would be.
On the rare chances he was able to slither and spend the night, Anakin would go on and on about how his life was perfect and how he wouldn't change a thing. He discussed how a little girl would be the best fit like her mother, and how a little boy would take after his strong-willed disposition.
Anakin would describe to Padmé over again about how Ahsoka would be the best and most generous aunty, and Lux would be the uncle to give them candy well-after sundown.
His vision was clear as the glass surrounding Padmé's luxurious balcony overlooking the busy city of Coruscant.
"When we have our baby," he said late into the night. "I want to be there. I want to be there when you give birth. I don't care where I am, I will be there."
"I like that idea," she replied cheerfully. "But I think Ahsoka should be there, too. It would be wonderful if she got to experience it as well." Padmé rested her chin on Anakin's shoulder. "You think she's willing to come all the way to Naboo with us?"
"Padmé," Anakin snorted, "of course she'd want to be there! She respects you more than she probably respects me. You can ask her to do anything, and she'll do it! Me, on the other hand, I have to fight tooth and nail just to get her to stay safe."
Padmé rolled her eyes and snickered, "she only doesn't listen to you because you taught her to directly disobey orders. That's kind of the religion she follows now." Padmé snuggled herself deeper into her husband, taking in his unique scent.
"Yeah, yeah, very funny," Anakin replied sarcastically, draping an arm over his wife. He was beginning to tire but refused to show it. "You know, you're so pretty when you're pregnant. You just have the cutest little baby bump, and you walk with such regality it's stunning!"
"Are you saying I'm only pretty when I'm having your kid?" Padmé joked, punching him playfully in the arm.
"NO!" Anakin defended. "You're pretty always! But extra pretty now!" Padmé laughed at his feeble attempt at flattery, giving a teasing kiss on Anakin's cheek. "Anyways, where's Snips? I just realized she's not here."
"Lux's," she said casually, yawning into her palm.
"Of course," he sighed. She was always at her boyfriend's house and never at home. "Does she ever stay and chill here? Or is she basically living over there—which I do not approve of?"
"She sleeps over here a lot more than you give her credit for," Padmé said with a hint of anger. "He had a bad night, Anakin. Ahsoka was tossing and turning because she could feel his unease. She was worried, and I'm guessing he had a nightmare of some sort."
Anakin was feeling a weight of shame on his back. He shouldn't be so quick to judge, and he shouldn't have a say on when or where his Snips spent her time. "Not so speedy with your retorts, are you?"
