It had been just over two-and-a-half standard months since Ahsoka Tano had come to Lux Bonteri terribly sick. And yet, Anakin Skywalker still had not come to rescue his Padawan.

Lux was confused. Maybe they didn't know she was with him? Maybe she got lost in a mission and has been reported as MIA or dead?

But as much as Lux enjoyed the company of Ahsoka, he couldn't help but think that she needed to go back to her master. Anakin could help her way better than he ever could even attempt.

Lux had a tedious decision to make: Keep Ahsoka with him and ruin her Jedi career, or love Ahsoka enough to let her go.

He was going back and forth for hours, contemplating what he should do.

It was more than clear to Luxor Phillip Bonteri that he was deeply in love with Ahsoka Tano. But he didn't want his love for her to keep her from doing the things she wanted.

"Remember, Lux. Sometimes when you love someone, letting them go will be the hardest thing you'll ever do. But sometimes, you have to love them to let them go,"

Words of his mother, Mina Bonteri. The words stuck to him; etched into the frontal lobe.

He knew he needed to let her go.

Stirring awake, Ahsoka noticed the other half of the cot was cold and empty.

It was about one early that morning when she woke up from a horrible dream crying hysterically. Lux was there, and within a few minutes she was back to sleep.

But he wasn't there then.

Slowly sliding down to the floor, Ahsoka tried her best to forget the hellish nightmare from the prior night. But she couldn't seem to erase the words that came from her former master.

don't you know what i've become?

It was obviously something from the future. Something that will probably happen in the next few standard months.

Shaking her lekku, Ahsoka went to look for Lux. Usually he was there when she woke up; why wasn't he there then?

Sighing either from hurt or from annoyance, Ahsoka found herself sitting at her seat at the table. Calling for Ooda, one of the many kind cooks, Ahsoka asked if she'd seen the senator. Nodding her head, Ooda explained he was on the south terrace, having an urgent transmission with someone in the Republic.

Thanking the cook, Ahsoka readjusted her brace and headed off to find her senator.

Approaching said terrace, Ahsoka heard a heated conversation. Not going out yet, she eavesdropped.

"Yes, master. I have her here. I have made sure she's well. I believe she's perfectly healthy besides her knee—which I'm hoping won't slow her down any in battle. . . ."

"Thank you, Mr. Lux." Ahsoka knew that voice. That was Anakin's voice. "I appreciate your willingness to care for her for me. I'm hoping things will change."

"At your wishes, Master Skywalker. Just please, take care of her for me? Please? I just don't know what I'd do if she. . . ."

"Of course, Mr. Lux. I can totally understand what you're feeling for her. I won't let anything harm a single montral on her head. You have my word."

"Can she visit sometime? I just. . . ." Lux asked quietly.

"I will see what I can do. But more than likely, I can sneak her to Onderon occasionally."

"Master Skywalker, how may I ever repay you? You are the kindest Jedi I have ever encountered. Well, besides Ahsoka, of course."

"You can replay me by treating her well. Don't break her heart."

Both nodding, the transmission cut off, and Lux sighed in relief.

Anger started spilling out of Ahsoka as she stamped over to Lux. "What was that?" she grumbled, pointing to the transmitter.

"I just helped you! Don't get snippy with me because I'm saving your damn career!"

"Don't call me that!" snapped Ahsoka. "And what the hell do you mean by 'saving my career'? I dont have one!"

"Of course you do!" insisted Lux. "With the Jedi! They'll be here in less than one rotation."

At the mention of Jedi, the soul of Ahsoka Tano seemed to be wiped away. "You did what?!" she screeched. "Why would you do that, when I specifically asked you not to!"

"I didn't want your life to be ruined because of me!"

"Well it was already ruined before you came into it!"

"Well, they're coming to get you! To take you back to that damn war."

"I am NOT GOING BACK!" an enraged Ahsoka yelled. "I'm not a Jedi anymore! If I go back, as much as I love Anakin, they'll make me try to rejoin the Order! I can't do that!"

"I'm sorry!" barked Lux. "You should have told me!"

"I told you not to call the Jedi! Repeatedly! You gave me your word that you wouldn't! You promised."

"That makes zero sense! Why wouldn't you want to go back to your home?"

"Why should I bother telling you? You're not going to bloody listen anyway! You're just gonna go behind my back and betray me!"

"No, Ahsoka! I'm not going to—"

"SHUT UP! Okay, just shut up! I know I'm just your rebound and you're using me to get more credits! Maybe it would have been better for me to die of starvation on Coruscant than come here!"

Both angered, both crossing their arms, both seeing no point in the other's argument, Ahsoka scowled while Lux glared.

"You shouldn't say that," Lux said bitterly. "I don't think you realize how much I actually care for you."

"If you cared then why didn't you listen? I will die going back to them. I won't live any longer."

"You know what, Ahsoka! You are the reason Steela died!"

Hot tears poured out of the Togruta's blue eyes, and she was gone.
