Promise

I always immediately ran home from school. Even though it wasnt even my own house it still felt like home. After school i always stayed at my neighbour's house.

She was a 70 year old lady with heart problems and she just started showing signs of dementia. Which was really sad because she was the only friend i had and i was her only friend. Because just like me she was a orphan. She didn't have any family to take care of her and her hushband had died a few years ago. From the day i met her i promised her that i would always be there for here and take care of her.

I have kept my promise for over 6 years now, almost 7. I moved next to her when i was 9 and i was now 15 (16 in 3 months). My brother and i went to go live together with my uncle after my parents had died in a car accident.

After the 20 minute walk i finally arrived at mrs. Middleton's house (her full name was Mary Ann Middleton's) but i just called her mrs Middleton. I had a key to her house becuase she trusted me and i was at her house everyday. I dindt look over at my uncle's house because i did not want to see him. So quickly put the key in the lock and opened the door of mrs Middleton's house. I slowy walked inside and called her name.

This was always the scariest moment of my day. I was always scared that she wouldn't call back and lay dead in her bed. Maybe that is a crazy thought but i still thought of it everytime a walked into her house.

But thank god just like every other day she happily yelled back "Lucy is that you my dear?" I quickly yelled "yes it is me" back. I closed the door and locked it behind me because i didn't want anyone else to come in. She was sitting in the living room, watching tv while she was sewing a hoodie of mine.

I always ripped my clothes while doing the chores in her house. So she always sewed the holes in my clothes even though i have said mutiply times that i can do that myself. But she said that she felt responsible for them because i ruined my clothes while i did chores for her. I never argued back at her, beacuse that was rude and she would win every arguement anyway.

I went to sit next to her on the couch. She put my hoodie down and asked "how was your day sweetie? Have you been able to make any friends yet? " I didn't like to lie to people but i also didn't want to hurt her feelings so i simply responded with " I have talked to a lot of new people and I think a few of them will definitely become my friend if i talk to them again tomorrow." She smiled at me and said " That's good to hear, always make sure you talk to as much people as you can. So you are able to make more connections with different kinds of people" I nodded at her and asked if she had any chores that needed to be done. She said that the laundry had to be done and then i could help her with dinner.

I walked upstairs to collect all the laundry ,which was a lot. I carried it all down to the basement. I hated the basement it was scary and dark and i had fallen down the stairs multiply times because the bloody light was downstairs. But this time i didn't fell, which surprised me beacuse i could barely see the ground with the amount of laundry i was carrying. After I had finished the laundry i went back upstairs to help her with dinner.

I washed my hands while she was cutting up some potatoes. "Can you wash and cut the carrots for me, Lucy?" I grabbed a cutting board and stood next to her to cut the carrots.

It was quiet for a while until she spoke. " You know that i have to go to the doctor every week to get mt heart checked right? ". I said "yes i know that, why?" She stopped cutting the potatoes and looked at her hands. "I would appreciate it very much i you were able to come to those appointments with me. You and i have both been noticing that i find it hard to remember things. So I'm scared that i will forget my appointments or the things the doctor says to me."

I dindt have to think long about my answer "of course i will go to the doctors appointments with you, i don't mind at all. I will write down when the appointments are and what the doctors tells you at the check ups, so you dont have to worry at all" I could see that a weight was lifted of her shoulder with the answer i gave her. She hugged my and said "Thank you so much! I promise you that my doctor's are really nice." I asked what their names were. She needed to think about that for a second before answering " my doctors are dr Hood and dr Hemmings"
I wrote that down in case i needed to make one of her appointments. I looked at the clock and saw that i was already seven o" clock. I sighted beacuse i didn't want to go home yet but also knew that my uncle wouldn't be very happy if i came home any later than 7:30 PM. I quickly asked miss Middleton when her next appointment would be she said that i would be tomorrow at 4 PM. I hugged her a goodbye and left her house.

This is my first wattpad story ever. So please feel free to give me feedback or tips so i can improve it :)
