SLOWLY OVER TIME, ELENA BECAME MORE LIKE HERSELF. more physically than mentally. mentally she was still very very damaged but she wouldn't admit it to herself or anyone.
School was still full of judgmental people but elena learned to ignore it or over power it. Her defense mechanism is to plain out be a bitch. she liked it a lot better than letting people get the best of her.
the aggravating sound of a phone call coming through rang in the young girl's ears.
"GOODMORNING SUNSHINE GET READY SO WE CAN GO TO DUTCH BEFORE SCHOOL OKAY BYE I LOVE YOU ILL BE THERE IN 30" she groaned to riley's rather energetic voice. she winced at the brightness of her phone, the screen read 6:20am.
she sighed and closed her eyes for one minute, or what felt like one minute. she was jerked awake by riley.
"elena i told you to wake up! i should've stayed on the phone" she shook the sleeping girl repeatedly.
"oh cmon riles im tired" she rubbed her eyes.
"i told you to go to bed and stop watching youtube" the brunette gave her a look. elena rolled her eyes and finally gave in.
"i'll be back in 10 minutes" she grabbed the clothes she laid out the night before and headed to the bathroom. she brushed her teeth and washed her face. pulling the jeans and tank top on she headed back to her room where riley was restraightening her hair.
Elena puller her hair into a low ponytail and slipped on her vans.
"let's go whore" she threw a pillow at riley. the brunette glared at her and turned the straightener off. she grabbed her keys and headed out the door, elena following her.
they got into the yellow bug and drove to the nearest dutch bro's.
"so where's mom?" riley questioned with her eyes on the road.
"the hospital has been giving her more shifts, she usually leaves before i wake up and gets home late" elena answered while typing a text to her mom telling her she left the house already.
"that sucks" riley frowned and gave a quick glance to the girl next to her. she pulled into the drive thru of the coffee chain.
"what are you getting?"

"today was not it" the two girls plopped on the bed. it was the last day finals week and teachers were not going easy.
elena took some pajamas out of her dresser and threw a pair to riley. they changed and settled on watching reruns of shameless on netflix.

the girls were on their 12th episode when adriana walked in the room, "ahi ay tacos en la mesa, y tengo que hablarte de algo," there's tacos on the table, and i need to talk to you about something
elena looked over at riley with a worried look. she had many thoughts in her head, was she in trouble? she hasn't done anything but the worry in her stomach stayed.
they all sat in the living room with the plates on their laps. Adriana was nervous to say the least, she didn't know how elena was going to take the news, especially after everything that happened. she just wants her daughter to be happy.
"que pasó mamá" what happened mom elena looked at her mom with a worried look.
"mija es que el hospital me está moviendo a otro hospital" the hospital is moving me to another hospital adriana looked at her with a slightly sad look.
"oh ¿a que hospital?" oh to what hospital? elena felt the worry leave her body. the new hospital couldn't be that far.
"eso el la cosa. el hospital está en forks," that's the thing, the hospital is in forks the young hispanic gave her a confused look "está en washington" it's in washington
elena looked at her mom with wide eyes and then over to riley who had the same expression as her. she didn't know how to feel. it caught her off guard.
"yo se que tienes muchas cosas aquí, memorias y todo pero ya confirmaron mi movimiento y pues tengo que estar en washington en una semana" i know you have a lot here, memories and everything but they confirmed my placement already and we'll i have to be in washington in a week adriana looked at her daughter with empathetic eyes.
Elena was speechless. she knew her mom wouldn't have done it if she didn't think it would help them but what about riley? that was the only thing holding her back.
she glanced at riley who was looking at the empty plate in her hands. she leaned onto her shoulder and gave her a sad smile, which riley returned.
"lo siento mija" im sorry her mother said. elena gave her a hug and reassured her there's nothing to be sad about.
the rest of the night riley and elena cuddled and watched sad movies. they didn't want to talk.
