Xavier's POV

Shit shit shit I'm so nervous. I don't know why I mean she took it well when I told her I was a vampire, but everything? The good, the bad, and the ugly? It freaks me out not knowing what her response will be.

We're back in her room. I lock the door to make sure there wouldn't be any distractions.

I can tell she's tense which makes me feel even more guilty with everything I'm about to say to her.

She's just standing by the dresser, looking uneasy.

I sit on the bed and pat the spot right next to me. "Come sit"

She opts to sit in the chair in the corner. I'm a little confused and disappointed that she wouldn't sit next to me.

"I won't be able to focus on such a serious topic like this and be that close to you." She reassured me.

"Understood." As I'm staring directly at her she's refusing to make eye contact with me.

"Well let's begin. I was born a few hundred years ago to Alexander and Celine Blackwell. They're the fifth generation of the monarchy. My father was a lot different than my grandfather. There used to be other royals who controlled different regions, but he was power-hungry and went to war with the other four regions. Now he controls it all." Taylor nodded her head in understanding.

"The way he govern his kingdom is disastrous. It's not even governing it's like a dictatorship. He doesn't allow anyone to even speak illy of him or else he burns them at the stake. And there's so many colonies that are facing famine because he can control the disbursement of food."

"When you say food, um, do you refer to humans?" Taylor still wasn't looking at me.

"No. It has been illegal to hunt humans for thousands of years. We have learned over time it's better to coexist."

She finally looked up at me and I was able to see her beautiful brown eyes. "So why did you hunt them?"

Now it was me looking away. "Taylor, I was a different person before I met you. It's a part of me that I don't want to remember. Yet I also worry that there is a little part of me in there. Even though I am second-born, my father raised me to be a king. He was a violent man so he taught me with violent lessons. There was one time when I was a boy, my mom had gotten me a horse, his name was Paxton. I had him for three years and I loved him like people now love their pets. My father made me kill him. That was how extreme he was grooming me. To be just like him. He killed a woman I loved, who I intended to marry. Losing her filled my heart with so much anger I sought to destroy." I saw shock on her face.

"I thought I loved her! It doesn't hold a candle to the love that I have for you." I exclaimed.

"Just checking." She gave me a little smile. If only she knew how much happiness she gives me just by her smile.

"Well my father killed her. All because he wasn't ready to give up the throne. He knew I disagreed with the way he ran things so he thought I would challenge him. Which I planned to do. Which I will do."

"Well what's stopping you from challenging him now?"

This is the part that pains me the most. The one thing I waited hundreds of years for, yet I can't do. "It is law that you must have your mate bonded to you to become King or Queen. Since I don't have that I won't be eligible for the throne until then."

She finally comes to sit by me on the bed. I hold her hand and feel a wave of comfort washed over me.

"Can you tell me more about the bonding thing?"
