Tanya

"A chicken! You're a chicken!" I yelled.

Today, I was having a game night with all my friends. Sean, Kelsie, Rashad, Kianna, Omar, Cherry, Randy, and even Carrie were piled up in my living room. There were chips, pizza boxes, soda bottles, and board games everywhere. Right now, we were playing charades. It was me, Rashad, Kelsie, and Cherry versus Sean, Kianna, Omar, and Carrie. Randy was being the referee/ judge.

"Time!" Randy said.

"I was a rooster." Rashad said, slapping my head.

"Same thing."

"Alright, new game or another round?"

"Food." I said, getting up to get my ice cream from the freezer.

As I pulled out the pint of rocky road ice cream, I felt a body press against me and arms being wrapped around my waist. I looked down and recognized the tattoos.

"Omar, how can I help you?" I turned in his arms to face him.

"Gimme kiss." He bit his lip and I bit mine.

Right as I leaned in to kiss him....

"Tanya, your phone!" Kianna yelled.

"One second." I left out the kitchen and grabbed the phone, answering it. "Hello?"

"Hi, I'm looking for Tanya Wilson."

"Speaking."

"Hi, my name is Janessa Harris. I work for Child Protective Services."

"Child protective services?" I asked causing everyone to look at me. "What-What's going on?"

"You're the mother of D'Andre Jackson, correct?"

"Yes! What's going on?!"

"Ma'am, there's been an...incident. I need you to come to UC Davis Children's Hospital."

I dropped my phone. I couldn't think. I couldn't move. It seemed like everything was moving in slow motion. I felt like I was having deja-vu.

"Tanya!" I heard causing me to snap out of it.

"I need to get to the hospital."

I was already dressed so I grabbed my keys and slipped my shoes on. I unlocked my car but the keys were snatched out my hand. When I turned around, it was Kianna.

"You're not driving, go around."

I quickly went to the other side and got in. The back doors opened and Kelsie and Cherry jumped in as well. Kianna pulled off and I stared into space. My leg just kept shaking as my mind raced. Before I knew it, we had made it to the hospital. I got out before everybody and ran into the hospital.

"Hi, I'm looking for D'Andre Jackson." I said to the nurse at the front desk.

"And you are?"

"Tanya Wilson, his mother. Um, a social worker just called me and told me to come here."

"Ma'am, his mother is already here."
