(Jared)

When I took Evan to show him the picnic I set up, he seemed weirdly sad and emotional. I tried to figure out what was wrong, but he was giving me nothing. We talked and laughed all night, but everything felt kind of off. There were these weird silences where we both just looked at each other. I would hold his hand but he would pull away.

We talked about the past year, remembering all the good times we had. All the love we shared for each other. I looked over, and I thought I saw him crying a few times, but I assumed it was just the dim lighting playing tricks on my eyes.

Finally, I decided I just had to do it. I had to let him know that everything was okay.

"Ev, I-"

"I think we should break up,"

Everything inside of me shattered. Every muscle in my body gave out. I dropped the box I had my hand on in my pocket.

"W-what?" I started gasping, I couldn't catch my breath. He wanted to break up? I was about to propose to him, and he wanted to break up?

"We should break up. It's too hard. The distance. I think we should still be friends though, if that's okay with you. I care about you a lot. I don't want to lose my best friend,"

"I- I don't want to lose mine either, Evan.."

He got up, nodded his head, and walked away.

"Evan, don't walk away. Marry me, don't walk away." I tried to yell, but it only came out as a whisper.

"Evan!" I screamed, using all the strength I had left. Tears were pouring down my face. Then everything went black.
