Romeo's POV:
'Why didn't I refuse it? Why did I agree to it?' I kept asking myself those stupid non-answerable questions. 'Why did I say that to her? What was the need for me to try and express my feelings for Juliett when she really didn't need to hear it like that? She just got the worst news of her life - well, second worst news next to the death of her parents - so how could I seriously just expect her to take it lightly?'
The way Juliett had so easily proclaimed that we hated each other burned at my heart. I've been doing my best to make her feel at home here and she still had grudges against me? Sure, we didn't get along well in our childhood years, but that didn't necessarily mean that I was the same kid from back then.
And I did like her, a lot, but then again was I really ready to get married to her? Maybe my decision was a bit precipitous. But, the fact that she was far more interested in Riley than I wouldn't let me be. Was I really that bad of a guy?
Well, there was no taking back my words now. It all depended on Juliett to make the final decision.
"Oh, Juliett, I'm just as confused as you are!" I groaned aloud.
"Then why didn't you just say that you needed some time to think before actually saying yes?" I heard a voice from the doorway say.
I sat up on my bed and saw Juliett standing there.
'Oh great,' I couldn't help think. 'What was she doing here?' It wasn't that I wasn't happy to see her, but the fact that Juliett had been listening in on my thoughts unnerved me.
"I-I don't know, ok?" I had no idea how to answer her back without sounding stupid or like a jerk, and that was basically all that I could come up with.
Juliett didn't say anything for a long time and just stared down at the floor. I watched her as she did so. She suddenly snapped her head up when she must've noticed that I staring at her and I quickly jerked my head away.
"Riley and I are just friends, ok?" she said suddenly. I gulped, feeling guilty of what I said out of anger before. "It's the same with Jay."
I nodded. "Yeah, got it."
"Good," I watched as Juliett slowly made her way across the room and over to my bed, taking a seat on the edge. "Look, I'm just as confused about all of this and your parents' decision as you are. I just wanna know why the hell I'm this confused and for what; I also wanna know what the sudden change in your...personality was and how it came about."
"Well, I can't help you there, Jules," I shrugged, speaking the truth. "'Cause even I don't know what the hell came over me then."
Juliett was about to say something else, probably ready to mouth me off, when all of a sudden a shocked expression came across her face and she closed her mouth back up.
"You just called me Jules." she breathed.
"Yeah," I gave her a weird look. I really didn't get why the hell she was reacting the way she was. "So?"
"So, you remembered!"
"Yeah, and?" I shook my head at her, getting pissed of again. "You're acting as if we're not really childhood friends. Like I didn't really know you since you were a little girl."
I knew and remembered very well that Juliett was not her real name, but it was instead Jewels. I had nicknamed her as Jules a few weeks after we met.
"I just...never really thought you'd remember that after all these years." she said quietly.
I could tell she was close to slipping back down memory lane and I knew that if Juliett did that, it'd make her upset at me again and I couldn't afford that. So, I tried something else; a tactic that I was sure would bring her back to smiling once again.
