*Bailey Up Top*
Daniel and I sit outside on the porch for a while.
"I'm sorry about my mom. She seemed so happy that she was going to meet you. I didn't know she was going to be like that."
"You don't have to keep apologizing. It's okay. As long as you like me, I don't care about what your parents have to say or what they think." He smiles at me.
I smile and kiss his cheek.
My mom comes outside. "I think it's time for you to leave young man."
He looks at me and stands up. "Goodnight Ellie."
"Night Daniel."
He gets into his car and doesn't hesitate to drive away.
"You don't have to be so mean you know. He's human he has feelings."
"I only care about your feelings."
I find myself laughing and I stand up. "Yeah. That's funny." And I go inside.
I lay on my bed and check my phone.
Ew, Matt.
"If things don't work out with your cookie cutter boyband boyfriend, I'll be here."
My reply: "No thanks."
A few days later at school, it's lunch and I am alone once again.
I haven't heard from Olivia. But I see her at the "cool kids" table with Miles.
As always though, Coltonsits across from me.
"Can I help you?" I ask him, shoving French fries into my mouth.
"Just looking for a friend."
"We're not technically friends."
"We could be."
I scoff. "I don't want to be. I'd rather have no friends."
"Well, without Olivia, you really don't have any friends. I hate to break it to you."
I sigh as I notice Miles is walking towards us. "Great."
"Hey nerds." He sits down. "What's up. Are you guys like, a thing now?"
"I hate him." I say.
"I don't exactly feel the same way."
I look at him. "Well you should."
"Well, I didn't come over here to talk." Miles pushes Colton off his seat. "It's just been a while." He laughs and walks away.
I roll my eyes and help Colton up. "At least we have that in common."
He fixes his glasses. "Thanks." He sits back down. "Hey, I know you have high grades in chemistry. Do you think you could tutor me?"
"No strings attached. I help you and that's all you get from me. Got it? I am strictly your tutor. Not your friend. And I will never have feelings for you."
He nods and smiles. "Thanks. And yeah, noted."
I nod my head.
"Can I ask you something?"
"You just did." I take a book out of my backpack.
"Why do you wear so many wrist bands all the time?"
"Because I like a lot of bands. Why else?"
"Can I see what they are?"
"Listen, you wanted to ask me something and you already did." I grab my stuff and I walk towards the bathroom to finish my lunch.
I sigh.
I hear a group of girls come in.
"She's so childish." I hear one of them say. It sounds like Olivia. "She hangs out with that nerd and talks about some band she likes."
How do they even know about that? This literally just happened.
"I can't believe you used to be her friend Olivia." Another girl says.
Olivia laughs. "Yeah, me either."
Used to be?
"I only ever hung out with her because her mom told me too. Trust me, I never benefited at all."
I know my mom can be bad, but she'd never do that to me. Would she? And if we were never really friends, why would her parents get me tickets to Why Don't We? You don't just do that for anyone.
"Damn, that's rough. But you have us now. You don't need to pretend anymore."
You don't, but I still have to.
After about five minutes of hair flipping and putting on lip-gloss, at least that is what I see from the crack in the stall door, they finally leave. I'm not going to act like that didn't hurt. I really thought she was a true friend. Everything I told her; she has probably told all her douchebag friends.
The bell rings and I make my way to my next class, which ironically, I have with Olivia, and today, she decided to sit by me.
I roll my eyes as the teacher walks in.
"Hey, do you have the homework?" She asks me.
"I have nothing for you." I whisper to her.
She looks at me confused, and then turns away from me.
School seemed to drag after that, and it was time for stupid prom committee. I don't want to be a part of it, but I signed up so I wouldn't have to deal with my parents.
I walk into the room, and of course, Olivia and her friends, and Marie. I didn't know she went here too. I sit over by her.
"Hey girl." She says.
"Hey." I put my backpack on the ground.
We both look at Olivia and her friends.
"We should have an Enchanted Forest theme." Olivia's friend says.
Marie scoffs. "That's so basic."
The girl rolls her eyes. "What about Disco Fever?"
Marie shakes her head. "Have some taste. How about we do a garden theme. All we would need is flowers as decorations."
The girl shrugs. "It's not horrible. The school hasn't done it yet. I'll ask Mrs. Ruiz tomorrow."
Marie nods her head, and we end up sitting there for an hour doing nothing.
