Sunday
I laid in bed for most of the morning. I was still amazed that Daniel wanted to be with someone like me. Maybe it's just my negative thoughts talking. I guess it just feels weird to finally be happy.
My phone dings, and it's an Instagram message from Bailey. I roll my eyes before opening it.
"I want to meet up with you", she says.
"Why? It's not like we have anything to talk about."
"I think we have everything to talk about, lol".
I shake my head and put my phone down. I lay on my back. It goes off again. I picked up the phone.
"I know you read the message", she seemed mad.
"Can you just leave me alone? I don't want any problems. I think it's best you stop trying to talk to me."
"I'm not going to go away that easily".
"Daniel doesn't want you anymore, in fact, nobody wants you around, so just mind your business and stay over there." I'm not the type that likes confrontation. I'm also not the type to fight over someone's attention. Not that Daniel is giving her any, but I don't want it to somehow come down to that.
My phone went off again, and I was ready to throw it, until I saw that it was a text from Daniel.
"Jonah's in town with his girlfriend and he wants to go on a double date, let me know".
I smiled to myself. "Yeah, of course."
"Great, pick you up at 5".
That gives me enough time to figure out what to wear. It's only noon. I get out of bed and go downstairs to make something to eat.
"Look who's alive." My brother, Liam, says, playing his stupid XBOX.
"Unfortunately, you are."
He shoots me a mean look, then goes right back to the game.
"Where's mom and dad?" I ask, pulling a box of cereal out of the cabinet.
"They went to their friends house to help them with something."
"When will they be back?"
He just shrugs.
I sit at the table and proceed to eat my cereal, scrolling on Instagram. I have more followers, and they seem to be mostly fan accounts, posting pictures of Daniel and I from yesterday. How do they even get these? How do they work so fast? They were cute pictures, I won't lie. As long as you don't read the comments, everything is usually fine.
I finish my cereal and put the bowl in the sink. I go upstairs to take a shower and find something to wear.
That Night
It was about 4:55 when Daniel texted me saying he was outside. I make my way downstairs, and my parents are still not back yet. Liam is still in the living room. "Are you going to be okay for a little while? I'm going out."
He just nods.
I shrug my shoulders and go outside to the car. I open the door and slide inside.
"You look good." Daniel says.
I smile at him. "Thanks."
He moves in to kiss me, and I kiss him back. Then he drives away. "Lily is one of the nicest people you'll meet. She is just as sweet as Jonah is. I think that's why they work so well together. Kind of like us." He smiles at me.
I don't think that he realizes that he's way nicer than I am. I just nod my head. "Where are we going?"
"I love how you still ask questions when you already know I'm going to tell you that it's a surprise."
I laugh and look out the window. We get to this city's famous ice cream shop, Frankie's. Yes, we name everything after people. We get out of the car the same time that Jonah and Lily do.
"Hey guys." Jonah says, waving and walking towards us, holding Lily's hand.
"Hey." Daniel says, grabbing mine.
The boy's got our ice cream orders, and walked up to the window together, leaving Lily and I alone.
She hugs me. "It's so nice to finally meet you." I guess she really is friendly.
I awkwardly hug her back. "Yeah, you too."
I think she sensed how I felt, and she let go. "Daniel talks a lot about you. Probably more than the rest of the guys talk about us." She looks at me, like she's hurt by that.
"I didn't know that. Maybe he's just happy?"
"I know he is, but, after Bailey, it's hard, you must understand."
"Oh, I understand." I look at the boys, who are still waiting, and then I look at her. "About her, she keeps sending me messages. Talking about how she wants to meet me."
Lily rolls her eyes. "I think you should block her. She's just going to keep talking, why deal with it and shut her down when you can just avoid it all?"
She had a point. I didn't think about that. So, I pull out my phone and do just that, I block her.
Lily smiles at me, "Feels better right?"
"Yeah, it does." I must admit, knowing she now can't bother me anymore.
The guy's finally walk back towards us and hand us our ice cream.
"Thanks." Lily says, kissing Jonah's cheek.
"Thank you." I say to Daniel, causing him to smile at me.
We walk towards the park and sit on one of the benches. We're all quiet for a while, because we're eating, until we see someone walking towards us.
"Who is that?" Jonah asks, then he looks at Daniel.
Daniel shrugs and ignores the situation. The rest of us, not so much.
