Name to note: Yahaira= Ya-high-rah
Keia, dearest Keia,
I don't know everything you went through. Because of the small fact I wasn't here.
One thing you didn't know about me is that when I was fourteen, my best friend killed herself. Her name was Yahaira.
She had a drunk father and a deaf mother. She learnt sign language to communicate with her. Her dad would beat them in the night and became a bank manager in the day. He was the most well hidden monster in plain sight.
One day, Yahaira kissed me. She was trying to see if she went that way. It turns out she did. I later found out that I did too. She had no idea what to do. In Africa, especially my country, being gay is a sign of being evil, unwanted, and a curse. In my country, there was actually a law against gay people living in the country.
She didn't know what to do. She was too stressed.
We went to an all girls school and she found it too difficult to be around them.
She told her father.
And he shunned her.
He wanted to kick out of the house. He thought how could a fourteen year old come up with this nonsense. This blasphemy.
She couldn't take it anymore and she didn't know what to do.
So she asked me if I would go with her.
I just couldn't go through with it. So when we went to Mutarazi Falls for our class camp, and we were supposed to not safely buckle our harnesses on the zipline. I safely clipped mine. She went before me. The last thing she did was kiss me on the cheek and whisper that she hoped we would find each other in the other side.
I just watched as she fell down to the water fall below.
I haven't really recovered from that ever since.
I couldn't bear it knowing you were going to do the same. I am glad I'm writing a letter to a breathing Keia. Not one to put in your grave.
I don't care if people don't like you. I like you. Cyrus is in love with you. People care, Keia. I do see though how you may not see that. I've had really dark times, worse than you could ever know.
The news report they did was total BS. The part where Cyrus was just hiking at three in the morning randomly and found you is something we should laugh over in future.
I know there's a.future. You know how I can tell? Because I see how your future will be. You could marry Cyrus. You could become an artist like you said you always wanted to be. You could try ballet again. You could become my roommate.
You can and will live, because there are people who love you for you to live for.
And I'm one of them.
From Lyrique.

Hey. Vote. Comment.From Mallie😐
P.S. No one has actually really died there. It's just fiction. Although, let this be a lesson, when they tell you to double check your harness, ignore that nonsense and full on octuple check it. Twice isn't enough. I know from experience.
