United POV

After a week of being separated from each other, we were miserable, in pain and could not accept comfort. There was none to be had. Keia was transferred in to a public hospital, having being bailed out by Mrs Olivers, Quinzel's mother.

Cyrus endured some surgery and other necessities for him to pull through. He felt like he was being pulled apart and glued back together differently. Like a toddler building a structure with blocks, only, unsure of just how well the end result will look until it becomes satisfactory.

Like a doll. Not real but alive somewhere, somewhere in another mind.

Two weeks, three weeks, the days were rolling. Trauma treatment, surgery, physiotherapy, all at once but we had only one true medicine to make everything all better.

Each other.

Keia was released two days after Cyrus. Her only scars were the many on her stomach, and her slow movement walking. She was not healed, she felt like she could never be. Why was she back here? Why!!!!

"We will try," she remembered. But how could she when he was not there for her. There was nothing to say. She spent her hours under the covers of her blanket thinking until she could not think anymore. At first, it helped her to sleep as her conscience was satisfied. But it soon strained her mind to worry.

Worry was a new resident in her community of little brain people. Worry,  Fear and Sadness. They had gained a big feast in her brain and would not stopping feasting upon her sleep. They were hungry, hungry for destruction. If they were not satisfied soon, their leader would join the party, Depression.

There was not much time until she would have to face the court. She was in danger of losing her freedom. It was all an accident. All of it. The stab, the near-kiss in the parking lot that Selena interrupted, the car crash, her ending up dying in the forest after all. Even falling head over heels for the school's bad boy.

There was no end to the hurt. No end to the fear and uncertainty. She had no escape. But took every temporary one with open arms.

That is why she went to the mall with Lyrique. She was so not herself, she actually let her best friend choose a few dresses for her.

"Hey, are you sure you're okay?" Lyrique was certain that this was not the Keia she came to love sitting silent in front of her in McDonald's, barely touching her burger and fries.

Keia looked up to her and said nothing. It was a clear answer.

"I know you're not. Is it him?"

" I just want to know if he's okay. I just...feel like something isn't there inside. Like there's something missing. "

"I get it. I have a crush once. Her name was Jasmine. She went to another school but we lived in the same neighbourhood. She was almost my best friend. Until she started to suspect me. Then she got involved in a car accident and was in a wheelchair permanently. Her mother told me to keep her company but she didn't want to see me ever again. It really hurt. That was last year. And I feel like there is something I'm missing but not specifically tied to her though. Like, I'm waiting for somebody."

" We all are, " Keia replied. They held hands and Keia felt slightly better enough to eat.

Later on, Keia decided to wander around a bit. Lyrique was working her shift in the Victoria's Secret store on the top floor. At one point, some nerve turned in her belly. She had to find a bathroom, fast.

It was late, about eight thirty in the night and there were less people on the third floor which was dedicated to men's wear and shoe shops. So it was the perfect floor with the perfect empty bathrooms for her to empty her dinner in.
