Part Seventeen

"Why did Alec have to leave?" I ask Alex as I make him a sandwich in my room.

Its now a fortnight since the funeral and things are getting quite better with Mr Smith and the store.

Today he offered to open the store himself and I officially had a day off since I'd worked countless times so he needed to reduce the load off my shoulders.

I was grateful.

Ms Smith surely was getting back to his old self and kept telling me all these past scenarios weren't my fault so I shouldn't live with the guilt.

He even referred to me as a daughter his never had.

That brought joy to me. For once I felt wanted and needed.

His indeed the father I never had, except that a father is someone you trust and tell every single secret of your life so telling my history to him is what he needed to know, though I wasn't ready for that as yet.

I needed the time to think it over before spilling.

So about my biological father, am happy his not there to taint my thoughts anymore but Mr smith, I gave in all completely.

"By the way Kath, I have a great surprise for you," Alex bring me back from the reverie.

"Surprise, am so eager to find out!" am standing close to him.

"There's no doubt."

"Hey about the sap sucker story?" I ponder not wanting to bring back Alec to the picture.

"I think we should leave now for the surprise because its about that too," he catches me off guard and standing up.

"The sandwich?"

"Could wait," he tenderly holds my hand and leads me outside. "We need my car."

"Somewhere far?" stopping in my tracks, I didn't wanna go to my hometown or a big gathering till my guilt is washed away completely.

He opens the door to the passenger seat for me and takes the driver seat himself.

Its 4pm and we're now along the moors. Our journey started at 2pm approximately a two or more hour drive. This brings creeps to me.

"Where is that?" I ask impatient.

"Don't worry its just a woodland," I sigh in relief. Then it comes to view, he turns off the engine and looks straight at me. "You know about Alec, his a vampire right?"

"What Alex your freaking me out and how is Alec connected to this!"

"Please let me explain," he cuts me off. "This my refuge. Alex is a blood sucker."

"Oh my god, stop saying that!" I cut him off. "You know how I feel about him."

"And am a sap sucker, I feed on sap."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Am a vampire that feeds on the sap of trees unlike Alex who feeds on blood. I chose sap over it."

"How," now accepting it.

"The moment I turned into a vampire, I rejected the idea of blood and got admitted to a vampire psychiatric institution for two years to train into a sap sucker other than blood. It was the toughest moment of my life, it was a tough transformation. Till I over came it."

"Meaning Alec could be one as well?"

"But his chosen not to."
