"Becca's journal is amazing," Raven gushed as she flipped through the pages of the small book in her hands. "At 26, she found a pathway to access a human mind."
Everyone was in the back of the rover with Raven, besides Bellamy and me. Bellamy was driving and I was sat beside him. As he drove, I had one of his hands in mine, our fingers intertwined. "That same year, she had to lock up Alie because her answer for what was wrong with the world was 'too many people'," Raven continued. "She was 27 when it launched the bombs."
"What did she write about the Flame?" Clarke asked, curiously.
"Alie 2.0," Raven said. "She saw it as a way to atone for her sins. She designed it to not just access a human mind but to merge with one. It could never wipe us out because it would be one of us. She would put it in herself first. Altered her genes so her body wouldn't reject the implant."
"Bekka Pramheda, the first commander," Clarke stated aloud. "The gene therapy made her blood black, didn't it?"
"Yeah," Raven said.
"How did you know that?" Octavia asked confused.
"Nightblood," Clarke said. "That's where it came from. Somehow it became hereditary. Luna has it. That's why we have to find her. If she can access Alie-2--"
"She can tell us how to stop Alie-1," Octavia finished.
"Bekka Pramheda gets her second shot at atonement," Sinclair commented quietly.
"Get back to the mind pathway," Monty said. "If Alie uses it to upload our minds to the City of Light, then there's a chance my mom's still alive."
"That depends on your definition of 'alive'," Raven stated.
"Eyes sharp. Weapons hot. We're almost home," Bellamy spoke up after a few seconds. The boy let go of my hand, reaching for the radio. "Miller come in."
Nothing but static. "Harper, you there? Your ride's two minutes out."
°°°
I walked beside the rover behind Sinclair and Octavia on the left side of the rover, my katana in hand. Clarke and Bellamy were on the other side while Jasper was at the turret. Monty and Raven were in the rover. We were just outside Arkadia; the gate was broken, possibly from when Jasper took Raven.
"We left two days ago," Clarke stated. "Why haven't they fixed the gate?"
"Maybe because there's no one here to fix it," Jasper stated. Something's definitely wrong and it's starting to freak me out.
"Maybe they got chipped," Jasper suggested, referring to Harper, Bryan, and Miller.
"If they got chipped, they'd have been waiting for us at the cave," Bellamy stated.
"Maybe they saw the open gate and went in for Lincoln's book," Jasper suggested
I rolled my eyes, taking in my surroundings as I spoke. "Maybe you should stop saying 'maybe'."
"If they are chipped, Alie already knows we're coming," Clarke said.
We stopped just outside the station, a small pool of blood in front of Bellamy where Lincoln has been shot. I looked at Octavia as she spoke. "Let's get Lincoln's book and get the hell out of here."
"That's a plan I can support," Jasper mumbled as Octavia walked toward the station.
Clarke seemed confused as to why Octavia suddenly seemed so tense until Bellamy spoke. "Lincoln."
We followed the rover into the station, weapons up and ready. The docking bay was empty, no sign of anyone.
"Close it up, turn the rover around," Bellamy ordered. "We may need to get out of here quickly.
