-EX's POV, 1st-
When we first arrived at the town, I was skeptical and apprehensive. What could possibly be so great about it? And what if Xisuma was there? "So, Mumbo, uh... What happened since season 3? I'm an admin and all but I've been pretty much living under a rock, so to speak..." He chuckled. "Well, a good bit has happened since then, and I'd be happy to tell you all about it." "Okay. Thanks."
We walked around, looking at shops with the others and occasionally buying something. I bought nothing, since I had no money. Eventually, we wound up at an ice cream place. Grian paid for the food and we all thanked him. I had never been allowed to have ice cream before as a kid, nor had time to try it as an adult, and it tasted amazing. "So, you mind filling me in? What happened to Zueljin, sl1pg8r, and all the others? I haven't seen any of them." Mumbo fidgeted with his hands a bit before answering.
"Well, as far as I know, those two went inactive as of season 3." It was kind of shocking that people had quit, but, I mean, my goal way back then was to destroy the server, so... "Oh." Honestly, I was more shocked that we hadn't run across X yet. Last time I saw him was in season two. It wasn't pleasant for him, but it was a ball for me! He may tricked me into thinking that a copy of the Hermitcraft server was the real one but I still got to destroy it!
I had a lot of time to think while I was banned, though, and I'd like to think I became a lot more levelheaded while I was there, even if I still have slightly "evil" tendencies. I was happy to be back, though, and I hoped that it would be a nice experience when I saw Xisuma next. Anyway, I was chatting with Mumbo about everything new that had been happening.
Apparently, a lot has changed. Many new people have joined, and many of the people I know have left, but there are still some veterans from season 1. I'm shocked that Generkib left, having founded the server and all. We had been continuing that conversation for a bit before Iskall came over to us. "Grian is falling asleep so I'm taking him back to his base. See you later." "Is he feeling ok? He's normally a ball of energy, so..." Mumbo asked. "Yeah, I don't know what's up with him, but I'd rather he fall asleep at his base than here. Carrying him would also be a pain in the arse." I nodded. "Go, then. Obviously, you need to help him." I said. He didn't acknowledge me and walked back over to the table. The two of them got up and walked away slowly. I watched Grian as they left, sighing. Typical day in the life. "Wonder what is up with him, though..."Mumbo pondered. "Mhm..." I responded.
We sat in silence for a while. It was nice. Calm. Quiet. Then Mumbo broke it. "Weird question, but... Can I... braid your hair? I'm sorry, but it is just so tempting." The question took me aback. A player wanted to interact with me? To touch me? "Do what you want." I responded. To be honest, I kind of liked him. He was interesting. Willing to talk to me. But I would be utterly embarrassed if he didn't feel the same. The void hadn't humbled me but it had definitely changed the way I thought about things. Not to mention what happened with Grian earlier. My cheeks tinged pink just thinking about it. It was weird to think about, but my mind is an oddity to behold. "Ooh, thanks!" I took my hair out of the big bun it was in, letting my hair fall down to my ankles. It had grown quite long, since time was cursed to pass much longer in the void.
"You have really long hair! It's going to be fun to braid." He spoke as though this was actually exciting. At least he was optimistic about it. "Your hair is so soft..." He commented. "Thanks. I just let it go its own way, but it always ends up smooth when I brush it for some reason." He chuckled. I let him braid my hair, and we both hummed along to the song playing in the shop next door.
It was some song that we both knew, apparently, though I'm not sure of the name. Xisuma had left me a couple of music discs and a stereo in the void, perhaps out of pity, so I'd heard it there. I guess I never bothered to look at the name. It was a very good song, though. "I hope you have the time of your life..." We both hummed as the song ended.
It was a little awkward, as I didn't like my voice very much. I didn't even like how I hummed. So off-pitch... "You like that version of the song?" Mumbo inquired. "You mean that's not the original?" He shook his head no. Color me surprised. Maybe Xisuma just didn't like it and that's why he gave it to me. It would make more sense.
Mumbo was still braiding my hair. For some strange reason, he seemed to enjoy doing it. We ended up chatting for a bit. I changed the subject to what he did for work and he told me about his brilliance with redstone. It was when he was about to tell me about his new project that I heard an all too familiar voice; Xisuma's. "Hey, Mumboooo! Who's that?" X asked. Then the realization hit him. "Oh. It's you." Mumbo stared between us, the tension so thick, you could cut it with a stygian iron brick. Mumbo didn't know about our past so he wouldn't get why we were less than amicable.
"Can we not do this now? I've changed. I'm not destructive anymore." I said. I hated these interactions. I had barely been here a day and I was already looking to be banned again. X simply glared at me. Mumbo gave me a questioning look but I ignored it. "Yeah, right. Like I'd trust you." X looked about ready to kill me, however, Mumbo cut between us. "Don't fight. Whatever he did, it's in the past now. Just let it go, X." X seemed annoyed that Mumbo was defending me. However, he nodded begrudgingly. "I suppose you can stay on the server. But, if you do anything, I'm banishing you again. And you're not. Coming. Back." I nodded. I couldn't believe he was being so lenient. "But I'm joining you." There it was.
"Yeah, sure, go ahead." I forced out. He gave the smallest hint of a smile. "Great. Go back to whatever you were doing, then." Mumbo started messing with my hair again and I tried not to look uncomfortable but also not too comfortable because that was weak. Xisuma gave a slight look of disapproval as he watched in curiosity. "Why are you doing that, Mumbo?" X asked. "It's fun." Mumbo replied casually. "That's your opinion, sure. I, on the other hand, think it's kind of weird." Typical X. He couldn't just shut up and let it be. "I don't believe I remember asking you." Mumbo spat. I was kind of shocked that he would talk to Xisuma like that. I presumed they were close friends. I guess not. Xisuma looked at him like he was insane. "What's going on with you? Did he do something to you?" X gave a pointed look at me. Mumbo rolled his eyes. "He didn't have to." That should have been the end of it. But Xisuma decided he had to go one step further.
"Hey, Mumbo?" Mumbo groaned and responded. "What?" He didn't bother looking up to see that Xisuma was drawing his sword beneath the table. I did. It wasn't like I had a weapon but that wasn't fair play. Even I knew that. I couldn't do much but as he stood and prepared to attack, I prepared myself too. He kept going. It was when he was about to strike that I stood and readied myself to stop his sword with my only weapon; My bare hands. Mumbo looked up, confused. Surprised, X swerved, but I caught the blow with my palms. A searing pain shot through my hands but I ignored the way my palms burned as the blood seeped out of them. Mumbo looked horrified. Xisuma looked almost regretful but mostly shocked. I... probably looked like shit. Xisuma wrenched his sword out, trying to inspect my hands, but I shoved him as hard as I could and ran. The last thing I saw of them was X stumbling to the ground and Mumbo staring after me as I went.
